I thought they both did a good job. I didn’t get the impression they were expecting to see Minnesota dominate. In fact they seemed impressed with KT and the entire team. I’m sure their BIG 10 tv network probably expected a dominating win by MN tho.

They were not Big 10 Network announcers. They are CBS announcers. Brad Nessler has been at CBS for about 6-7 years now; ever since Verne retired. Charles Davis took over for Gary Danielson this year after Gary retired. The Big 10 Network is a joint venture between FOX and the Big 10. CBS has no stake in it. CBS just has the contract to broadcast the 2:30 Big 10 game.

In the first half they seemed to me a little biased towards Minnesota. Example: I think it was Nessler who stated on a crossing route by Minnesota “did you see the yac yardage that receiver gained”. That receiver only gained 1yrd after the catch and was firmly tackled.

How many times did they show Fleck on the sidelines? It seemed like over 50. Yes they showed Lebby and Arnett.

I think the greatest tv shot of the whole game was one single guy sitting on a totally empty sections of seating towards end of the game.

Are you kidding? CBS has a huge stake in it. Just like they did in the SEC when it had that time slot. The announcers call virtually nothing but Big 10 games. And part of their job is to hype the Big 10, and not the SEC.

Precisely. I thought they did a great job to be honest. Definitely an upgrade over what we had with the CBS slot. They pimped the Big 10 but were very impressed by our team.

I feel Herbstreit shouldn’t be allowed to call OSU games. Want to discuss being biased? Texas vs OSU game last night entire broadcast was an OSU hype piece, Big 10 dominant, etc… I usually don’t let stuff like this bother me and shouldn’t but it was very annoying to listen to imo.

It’s obvious he hates the SEC.

I feel they were professional and extremely complimentary towards MSU and K1, but that was just my perception.
I agree to a point. We didn't leave them much of an option other than be complimentary of the team whopping the crap out of their big 10. I think they started getting a little over the top complementary (talking heisman and such). You know - building us up to minimize the negative towards the B10.

I got the impression they were referring to the Big 10 "Network" comments in terms of a stake similar to their days with ESPN/SECN.
Surprised some folks don't seem to know who Brad Nessler is when those people were our people just 2 years ago music and all.

This is one of many reasons that I almost never listen to announcers during any football games, and especially MSU games; the mute button is my best friend!! The announcers usually come across as homers for the opposing team, and they usually find ways to interject Alabama into the discussion even when they're not a part of that broadcast!!

Agree totally. One incident last night in the first half stood out to me - when he thought Sayin had had his facemask grabbed. Replay showed it wasn't even close. He admitted it, but prior to the replay was sure it was a big penalty.

I pose two questions:

How satisfying was it to hear the smug superiority disappear from the BIg 10 broadcasters voices over the course of the first half as State pulled away?

How would you rate them compared to Gary and Vern? I'd take the Big 10 guys any day.

You and I must’ve listened to different games yesterday. There are several college crews out there, Nessler and Davis are definitely top 5.

It's a shame Brad Nessler is on the Big 10 broadcasts. He needs to get back to doing SEC games.

I thought it was a great broadcast, and STATE got great coverage.

It would have been better if the cut to Jenny Dell for, at minimum, 1/2 the shots of Minnesota's, bald coach in his Burgundy spandex outfit with yellow tie

Too be fair he didn’t have time to talk about our offense. He had an hour to talk about MNs on that first drive.

I didn't catch any "smugness" at all, but I missed the pregame. I expect them to be a little more familiar with the B1G team.
I did. During the week before the game. Even Charles Davis had an air of superiority talking about MN and the BiG. All of the MN media may as well been celebrating the potential arrival of friendly aliens only to be eaten alive by them. The two of them were nice to listen to during the game though.

CBS has no state in the BIG TEN NETWORK. That is Fox and the Big Ten. CBS has the contract with the Big 10 to broadcast one game a week, just like they used to have a contract with the SEC. CBS also had no stake in the SEC Network when they were broadcasting SEC games. The SEC Network is a venture between the SEC and ESPN. I was merely pointing out that Brad Nessler and Charles Davis aren’t “Big Ten Network” announcers. They work for CBS. Of course they will be more familiar with Big 10 teams because that’s who they cover the entire season.

What does the Big 10 Network have to do with anything here? The game was on CBS. CBS has a huge stake in pushing the Big 10 to generate ratings for their 2:30 Big 10 game every Saturday.

I thought Ness & CD were pretty good. Possibly a little Big 10 bias before the game, just to hype up their weekly B10 games.. but they were quickly left no choice but to be impressed by our offense.

There is no smugness like Gary Danielson smugness. Go back and watch the Dak highlight reel from 2014. They did at least the Auburn and UK games. If Dak or State did anything positive, the most you get is a monotone "whoa. how about that." from GD. At least Vern yelled and screamed "WOW" a few times.

GD never says "Wow, that Dak is really good!" or "State really played great on that one"... The closest he came was one comment, "it's almost not fair", which I guess is supposed to be a complement, but the way he said it almost in a sad, complaining way made me want to punch his 17'ing lights out.

This. I think they largely did a good job. But there was definitely a little bias early. I think once things really started to become apparent about how the game was going to go, they were a lot more complimentary of State. I thought they were really kind to KT, and Davis was pretty down the line on commentary about penalties.
