Theo Hopkins has Leo 3-1 and off to their best start in 12 years after beating St Viator 40-8. The last time Leo has had a better start to the season was Hopkins senior year when they started 4-0 and finished 10-3 with a semi-finals appearance (2013).

A few lesser known nominees here

Dalton Tieman of Carlyle. The Indians went 0-9 last year, but in his first year as the head coach he has Carlyle 3-1.

Kyle DeMus of Durand-Pecatonica. The Rivermen made the jump from the NUIC to the Big Northern and they currently sit 4-0.

Jeff Palmer of the Fisher Bunnies has his team at 4-0 after a 1-8 campaign in 2025. The move from the HOCI to the Lincoln Prairie has the Bunnies back in the playoffs.

Josh Miller of South Fulton! The Rebels sit at 3-1 and will make their first playoff appearance since 2014!

Joe Reed at Hillsboro has the Hiltoppers at 4-0 fresh off a big win over Greenville! They look to be the team to beat in the South Central now with wins over Pana, Vandalia, and Greenville.

Tyler Whitebread of Erie-Prophetstown has the Cardinals 4-0 after a big 14-13 win over Newman Central Catholic on Saturday. That was the first time E-P had beaten the Comets in 23 years.

Coach Sheehan of Metea Valley has turned the program around. Metea Valley beat Neuqua Valley for the first time in the school’s history (16 years).

In Coach Sheehan’s second year, he has turned around a program that, over the past nine years, went 11–60. During that time, the most wins the school had in a single season was three, which they accomplished in 2016 and 2020. The Mustangs are now 2–2 and are aiming for only the second playoff berth in school history!

The Mustangs blocked two extra points and a field goal, which they returned for a touchdown. They also added a last-second touchdown pass to seal the game. Even after being down several times throughout the game, Coach Sheehan would not let his team fold. They were resilient, starting their last drive deep in their own territory. Even when their backs were against the wall, the Mustangs’ belief in making history could not be denied.

The Mustangs are on the right path, not only building a successful program on the field but off the field as well.

All.... From the SJR news article... Ratsy

Adjustment time for Grounds. He and the others on his staff noticed QND linebackers were tipping their tendencies off the rush, and like a good poker player, adjusted their plays.

"Their linebackers were selling out to the perimeter, and we got them into some angles we thought were advantageous for us," Grounds said. "We made some good reads and were able to pop them."
