OL play

We need to play our five best players from here on out. That means no more Malachi Wood. I know Bama has a great D but he was on his heels all afternoon and it’s been that way since he’s been here. He was a project recruit and doesn’t have the foot speed to play in the SEC. Go back to the lineup we had last week. Heard, Knox, Price, Tshabola and Alinen.

I don't think it matters when your QB drops back like he's got all the time In the world without a ounce of awareness. Minchey doesn't even look like an athlete.

Minchey didn’t look good at all but he had no time to throw and receivers weren’t getting open. Wood was the biggest issue I saw today though.

We spent almost 4 million on our o-line. They were dominated by a 3 million dollar Bama line.

Yeah, Lance Heard is a potential first round draft pick and he looked pretty bad today. Price was the top center in the portal. Tshabola was a two year starter at Ohio State. We weren’t out talented. We were simply out coached.

I just can't blame the o line even if they were terrible. When he does have time and throws anything other than a five yard slant it feels hopeless. I've never seen such a bad deep ball. Receivers didn't connect on a single pass down field as far as I can remember. Receivers looked mentally out of it.

Even on his touchdown pass on the play action in the first half it's like he lobbed the ball and barely made the wide open pass almost like he pushes the ball instead of just throwing it. Idk he just seemed three steps slow like he had a concussion or something.

Minchey has never played against a defense like that. YSU was his first start. Notre Dame played weak schedules and Minchey only came in when it was out of hand. Hopefully he adjusts.

Which begs the question…why was he ranked highly in the transfer portal? I know he was a 4-star HS prospect…but still. Kid hadn’t thrown a TD pass before he got here.

Wood was pretty bad. I think we want him to be good because he’s from Kentucky, but he is who we thought he was.

Potential. He came close to beating out CJ Carr, who is a Heisman frontrunner.

Yeah. I heard all offseason how much he improved. Today we saw that was not true at all. It seemed like every time Minchey was getting pressured in the 2H, you saw Wood playing catch up to a Bama defender who was sacking Minchey.

All those former teams say the back up "came close to beating out ________." Ohio St said that about Kienholz. I'd take it with a grain of salt

The OL was definitely not the problem. Awful qb play was the problem. If the defense constantly brings 7, they're daring the qb to beat them and he just kept holding the ball.

I don't think the line did a good job but the QB didn't help them a lick like you said. It's like they brought seven the whole game but he never figured that out. Usually a QB gets sacked running away from pressure. He had no clue the pressure was there most of the time.

And I'm not sure if we have a single receiver that can create separation which makes online and QB look even worse. Anderson looked like he kind of gave up.

I mainly was a defensive player back in the day but every now and then I would slide in on offense and play receiver. It's not a good feeling having to run a deep route knowing your QB isn't going to get it to you. Minchey throws the ball out of bounds almost every deep ball if he's not throwing to Anderson in double coverage.

Sloan hurt us by consistently dropping Minchey in the pocket knowing our receivers lacked the speed of bama’s secondary and couldn’t get free. You’re not gonna have a chance at that point to get the ball out while you’re getting bull rushed. Counter it by running quick hitters, slants or a swing pass. Move the pocket. Anything. Didn’t help that Wood and out blocking back were standing there counting guys running padt them.

What we saw was just the reality of UK OL play.
It will rarely be a whole lot better.
You will never break through at UK with a non athlete at QB.

I do not know, but I wondered if the Youngstown State QB was good enough to beat out Minchey, if both were here. He seemed to be a more proven player, albeit at a lower level. Hopefully, Minchey will quickly learn from mistakes he made against Bama. We need him to play much better ...

Why did our line used to be so good to even get the name Big Blue Wall? Did we just get lucky with some under the radar guys with Stoops in the beginning?

Seems they were a lot bigger? Meaner? I remember a couple of years where the O line actually bullied people. We just ran down people's throat. I kind of miss the line being dominant.

Minchey seems too small to be a drop back passer. Looks like the only way to make him effective is to roll him out and have him use his legs when nothings there. Although I’m not sure how effective he can be running as I haven’t seen much athleticism from him so far.

Those lines were great at run blocking, but they also struggled to consistently provide good pass protection.

Bama brought major numbers. Its a numbers game. Qb has to make them pay and we never did. A couple of screens would've been huge and relieved that pressure.
