All I wanted to see was a competitive, well coached, exciting team

The second half did. I didn’t expect a win, but with how mega-hyped everyone was all week for this game, I did expect that we’d go down fighting with max effort all game.

But instead it looked like we just rolled over and quit competing after halftime.
That's Kentucky football though. I was actually much more surprised by the first half.

I still believe in Stein. If he can't turn UK into a contender, then who can. I just looked at schedule. Based on what I have seen so far, Bama is better than every team on the schedule with the exception of maybe LSU. That doesn't mean that UK can beat the other SEC teams, but UK may have just played the best team on the schedule.

NO IT DIDN'T. An oline that couldn't block the edges, a QB that didn't make accurate throws ,recievers that couldn't get open is what killed us Steins fake punt was based on his judgement that our defense was gassed and our only chance of winning was to keep possession of the football. You guys have watched too much Stoops ball.

This!

The issue wasn’t so much the fake punt itself but having your backup blocking TE try to run the ball for a first down didn’t make any sense. That was Joker-esque dumb.

Yeah, I’m not as critical of the fake punt as others. With the way momentum had completely shifted, I think he correctly concluded that things were about to cave in on us if we didn’t retain possession there …and we only needed like one friggin yard.

He took a risk that didn’t work out, but I totally understand the logic behind the decision in that situation.

Stein obviously runs a workable exciting offense WHEN HE HAS THE PERSONEL. This year he doesn't have them. PoorQB play , abysmal recievers and ssllloooowwwww offensive line ruined a winning effort on defense. Our offensive tackles are dreadfully slow. I watched them get beat repeatedly by Bamas quicker more athletic edge rushers. I think the jury is still out on Minchey, he played very poorly but it was his first start in a truly big time football game. He might improve. Our recievers are another issue entirely. My Grey haired granny could cover them. It's gonna be a long season.
We paid more for this offensive line than Bama did for their defensive line and Kentucky's line got dominated.

You have to be fully committed to be competitive. We’re fully committed to basketball and failing. Not a good recipe for revenue success when you need one to help amplify the other

I don’t agree. Teams rarely rotate OL. And our DL is the deepest room on the team. We got outcoached in the 2H. Leaving Malachi Wood in there after he repeatedly got burned today drove me nuts. They need to go back to the OL they had last week and move Alinen to RT and Knox at LG.
I think you are correct....Alinen appears to ahve better feet and Knox appears to be good enough inside to hold up. Wood.....he simply has been a bust in limited time the past 2 years.....and his first game in his 4th year ddint look good.

What I liked:
- The Defense held up nicely for a half.....I have hope that Stein won't be Mumme-esque with all offense and a pitiful defense. But that 2nd half was bad.
- I think we are finding some guys that need more snaps in Patterson and Darby.
- Bryant and Casteel are strong safety duo.

What I didn't like:
- The lack of ability to get short yardage.....really went from a loss to a blow out. Running game in thsoe spots was bad and just not able to get short passing game to pick it up...total mess on that front.
- Malachi Wood looked really bad to me....in limited spots the past 2 years....he's not shown much for his potential. TO be in his 4th year and looking that bad....doesn't feel like he's an answer this nd next year.
- We have really bad CB.....Nichols is always hurt and we need him.
- Bo Barnes doesn't appear to be ready for MLB.
- Stein had no 2nd half adjustments offensively.....he needed to get that unit to perform better. 7 of our 17 pts were defensive TD....and we gave up a pick 6.

Once Bama saw we had no passing game past 15-20y...the sit down... And took away the short game... There secondary was good enough for 1 on 1,ans they just blitzed and pressured... 3 and out... Defense held there own till they got gassed. The fake punt was not bad.... But you have to put someone alittle faster.... More athletic to make someone miss.... To many penalties some questionable calls... And seemed to be no adjustment.. If you QB can't stretch the field, the defense is just going to line up and T off on you.... Hence the 2nd half.

Lot of people pumped Stein. This is an embarrassing effort today, from all involved on the UK side, except the fans. Which is pretty much always the case with UK sports anymore. Both major UK sports are an utter joke at the moment. Sorry but it’s time to call a spade a spade. We have zero run game. How do you expect to pass the ball with zero run game? People saying Minchy didn’t show up… what about CJ Baxter? Supposed to be one of the best O lines in the country blocking for him. At the end of the day this team is hype and nothing else. No substance. Bama is very average and DeBoer isn’t going to last there. If we can’t beat them at home with all the buildup, we’re gonna be lucky to win 4 games this year. It is what it is… UK football. The ****** part is that we don’t have basketball to look forward to anymore.
Yeah the fans were outstanding. Hope Stein and the team enjoyed the atmosphere because I’ll be shocked if they get that again this after how they played. The only way they’ll get another crowd like today is if they upset someone. They’ll have to actually prove themselves now because relying on hope and hype ain’t gonna work after today.

They one their first 2 games by a combined score of 93-27. That doesnt say bad team . Now what do you see that says bad team?
They one them? Good stuff. Bama fans don't want their current coach and it's only a matter of time before they make a change.

What has sumrall done that stein hasn’t? If we change schedules we are 2-0 and they are 1-1
I’m not basing my opinion on what Sumrall has done the first two weeks. I always wanted him. He was the perfect hire for UK IMO. Played and coached here. Went on to have major success as a head coach himself. I just think he was more of a sure thing to win here than anyone else we realistically could have gotten.

Let’s see what he does against elite teams first. No guarantee he would’ve even took the job anyways. He is a stoops guy and might not wanted to follow him.

Okay, tell me what I'm missing
An almost 70 million dollar buyout says he isn’t leaving anytime soon. Also with a stacked roster now and more talent he’s got coming. He’s got an elite defense to buy time for the offense. Grubb is the problem imo with them. He’s not a good OC by any means.

No. Grew up in a bama household. Most my family are bama fans. I’m the only Kentucky one. But Deboer isn’t going anywhere anytime soon at least. If Russell gets comfortable and going they will be extremely tough to beat. That second half he settled in.

Wood's struggles today killed the offense. We couldnt drop back at all. Not sure why a change wasn't made , but youre right

2 levels of competition. There is a reason Alinen came to Kentucky and isn’t still at bama. Also the rb missed several pickups on the right side on overload blitzes. It’s not always on the oline on a sack. It’s qb calling proper protection, it’s rb pickup or it could be route concepts to get rid of ball quicker on 5-6 man pressures. Also when the defense knows its pass and the qb isn’t a running threat it’s easy for them. Just push up field hard and fast as you can.
