Thoughts on Temple game?

My fav Temple guy was John (I'll kill you) Chaney. lol
They drubbed the 242 ranked team. Time will tell though .
Hopefully nothing serious and if so then I would hope Campbell is upfront about it. Remember a couple years ago we lost our safety for the year in the first game (forget his name) and Franklin never said a peep about it.
First road game for the new coaching staff. Lessons to be learned in advance of the upcoming Friday night game at Northwestern.
What was his statement on granville?
If Campbell was more open you would not be coming here for rumors.
It will be interesting to see how this staff deals with noon games without a lot of juice. We haven't been a good noon team, going back to Paterno.
I would hope that we keep injury info out of opponents hands, "open" is not smart tactically.

Fans spent the last 12 years complaining that info was not more available.
My thoughts after the game: 1. We're not getting enough pressure on the QB and we're going to have to improve in that area as we get into B1G play. It's looking more and more like we're going to have to blitz in order to generate pressure but of course there are downsides to that. 2. We need to figure out the 2 deep at RB and make sure 1 of them is someone that is not just "consistent" but can break off some runs and add some dynamic plays.

Running QB's can make blitzes look like a really bad idea. So, the Blitz packages really have to be tailored to the tendencies of a particular QB and so on.
Something is going on at RB with the rotation, Injuries? Disciplinary? Poor Blocking? I wish I knew. You can make up for the long runs from the backfield with screens and throws to RB's in the flat and make better use of the TE's in the passing game which we haven't seen yet.
The positions of DE and RB are becoming a concern to me when looking down the road to stiffer competition.
Quck post game thoughts
1. The first half was horrible, until the last drive. Hard to believe Temple's makeshift O-line handled the PSU D line for a good potion of the 1st half.
2. Did anyone say what happened to Martin and why he was not in the RB rotation? It might have been said, but I missed it.
3. Was Rocco's flubbed first attempt at a TD pass when he was past the LoS the new "play that defines the New Matt Campbell Era"? Or was it the second attempt at a TD that was grossly off target and lacked touch?
4. Stands appeard about 75% full. Thought more PSU fans would show up for the game.
5. Pat Kraft hired Steve Addazio when Kraft was at Temple. Not sure if that says anything, but.....there you go.
6. Corner backs looked really good. Safeties - not so much.

I don't think those position problems are going away. Losing Granville so soon is a kick in the nuts. Moving Bacon was likely an effort to get your best talent on the field. A move you don't make if you are confident in your DEs.
RB issue will quiet down for a week as Buffalo gave up 540 yards to FIU. So everyone will run wild and many will insist we're cured at RB. Hansen is dependable and the best. It's troubling that none of the other RB have earned the trust of the coaching staff after spring, fall and 2 games. We certainly won't learn anything in a game vs Buffalo's defense.
Let's give Lynn a minute to scheme for the loss of Granville. That injury and then upcoming game happened too close to change things up.

I'm not concerned with the coach or scheme. I'm not convinced he has the talent to get pressure off the edge. When you compensate for that by gaming LB it can leave you vulnerable if they don't get home.
I think unfortunately we are just short on talent on the DLine. I don't think there are any game changers. I am hopeful we keep improving and we are able to be physical at DT and clog the middle while getting pressure from the edge guys. I think this is a group that will struggle against better competition. Concerned about LB after Rojas, also.
I am only somewhat concerned about LB depth. More concerned about the DT's ability to penetrate and make tackles for loss.
I get it if the scheme is to have the DT's plug holes and occupy space, but you better be able to bring pressure from other spots as in DE, oh that's a big question mark now too. Or bring it from the LB's Corners or Safety. Scheming for sacks is now more complicated for sure.
I think Campbell has been giving info regarding injuries more so than previous head coaches.
I agree, but coaches for a long time have used HIPPA as a crutch.
