Union @ Lejeune
Last week Union surprised me by beating up on Bear Grass. Is Union a great team? No they are a decent 2A team but they take care of business and beat who they are supposed to beat. I do think Unions downfall will be the defense... the offense seems to be solid. Cromartie had 11 carries for 224yds and Melvin had 11 carries for 183 yds thats a pretty good combo. I hope they can continue to string together wins and obviously this week is another win sorry Lejeune.

Hobbton @ Rosewood
Last year this was the turning point for Hobbton and I am wanting to lean that way and say that is what happens again this year. Hobbton went to war with Triton and Dixon the past 2 weeks after getting dumped by Midway week 1. Hobbton has multiple skill players who can make impact but thats it they have nobody in the trenches which I believe will be their downfall. Rosewood has a solid defense and a RB on offense that you better not let get a head of steam. I expect this to be a fun game to watch but I gotta go with the Eagles.

Lakewood vs Fairmont
Lakewood put up a fight last week and at times it looked like they might pull off the upset but it simply wasn't enough vs them Raiders. QB play has been non existent so far, he's got solid numbers but most of those yards are from jet plays that count as a pass. Now the 3 RB rotation is very good them boys run the leather off the ball but they need to get the passing game up to speed ASAP. Defense for Lakewood is good at times but not consistent and it is still early but they have got to be more consistent if they want to win the conference. Fairmont is usually one of the many bad Robeson county football teams but they have put together a solid start to the year in Fairmont teams. They always have the athletes and size but never the coaching or discipline to pull it out so maybe this year is different. Fairmont has the dudes to shut down Lakewoods pass and offense to get loose on those Leopards but I don't think Fairmont has the peices to stop the Leopard run attack. It will be another close one but Lakewood controls the clock and takes the win.

Clinton vs East Bladen
What a way to bounce back for them horses last week beating WRH 7-6. I can only imagine how stressful that game was for both sides. Seems like Clinton force fed Boone (As they should) and had way better QB play which is what hurt them vs Midway. As we can all see the defense is legit.... if the offense can come along and stay in a good spot they can compete with Pender and ED for the conference this year. East Bladen looks like a potential 2A east regional Tarboro sacrifice so far this year. They went toe to toe with a 3A east favorite in Whiteville you've got to be impressed with that. Through 3 games they already have 1k rushing yards and #21 Lewis already has 554 yards and 12 TDs. I believe Clinton will have more depth and the better defense but East Bladen gonna get theirs but it won't be enough.

Midway @ South Johnson
The county champs are here baby! 3 years in a row! Not sure if anyone has beat Clinton and 2 other county opponents 3 years in a row before or even once so that's pretty cool for the Raiders. Midway looked iffy last week and started very slow which has become a common theme when playing the Leopards on the road. Midway defense looks much improved but their weakness has been BIG plays. Midway gets scored on with 50-60yd tds not slow and long drives down the field. They need to clean this up to get where they want to be which is competing in the overloaded 3A east. The offense hasn't skipped a beat with running the ball Wesley Tew is a force to be reckoned with and QB Tanner Williams has been getting his on the ground this year as well. This game against the much bigger 6A South will be a good test for the Raiders. South has dudes and they have a great defense that is full of speed. Last year South held Midway to only 2 scores and Midways defense had a night only allowing one score (Other south score was a pick 6) I do believe both teams got better from last year but Midway blew that game last year in reality. Dumb penalties and costly mistakes cost them this ball game. Midway knows what has to be done and this is a major step before heading into conference next week and playing the Teo McPhatter bulldogs. Midway comes to Benson and takes over.
