Eh, I didn’t really take it as a shot. What he said is mostly true. But it’s also like lecturing Georgia that they should’ve settled for Mark Richt and not pursued a higher goal.
As noted earlier, that is a great analogy. The higher the goal, the greater the risk. Taking that risk is never as sure a thing as standing pat, and it leaves you open to a lot of second guessing but sometimes it's worth it.
Franklin ultimately pushed Rahne out because he knew he wasnt the guy. I think he found him a job vs firing him because they are very close friends.
Maybe Rahne doesn't realize this, but one of Franklin's biggest issues was that he couldn't figure out his offense over the course of 12 years. And Rahne was part of that problem.

Rahne was a terrible play-caller and a fake tough guy to boot.
There wouldn’t have been a need for that or really any other meaningful call had the vaunted defense been able to prevent OSU from scoring 2 TDs in the last 8 minutes of the game. May I assume you are too young to remember the goal line play calling in the 1978 game against Bama?
You will literally never see a coach ever trash or even mildly rip another coach these days since they may be their next employer or employer again as in the case of Pry at VT. They will always blame the fans, University or boosters. We were never going to win a MNC with Franklin and we may not with Campbell but at least there is a chance.
Yea you could say that. But it happened to franklin two years in a row vs osu. 2017 and 2018. I was at 2017 osu on buckeye alumni 40 yard line and all the fans had given up. Both games were all but over. Yet Franklin screwed it up. Twice!!

Not to mention when a camera panned him in the press box he was always picking his nose.
All the coaches that were fired during BGJ's tenure were on the offensive side of the ball. Tom Allen was maybe feeling the heat after OSU ran out the clock after the goal line stand, the Oregon blitzkrieg during the Big Ten title game and critical breakdowns during the ND game. I often wonder if some of the firings were due to pushback on BGJ insistence over how he wanted things done.

On the 4th and 5 play against OSU, I understand how many thought that PSU should have kept the ball in their best players ( Trace's) hands, but the right side of the field was totally wide open. The OSU DE made a great play and our OL missed the assignment; otherwise Miles scampers down the right side of the field for at least 40yds, and if he makes the OSU DB miss, a TD.
These two games had an impact on recruiting as well IMO.
At some point a big win with less talent gets you over the hump of having equal or better talent.
Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while but BGJ must have been blind, deaf and dumb because he never found those nuts - yeah sometimes coaches are at fault which somehow would be a shock to one particular poster around here - and yes us fanboys deserve better since we pay the bills for these coaches - novel concept I know your boss wants the best person for the job and if its not you they will find someone else - shocking.
What rock were you living under in 2016 when Franklin’s PSU team won the Big Ten Championship or 2024 when they won 2 playoff games? You are right that it was time for Franklin to go and I hope Campbell delivers all those Big and National Championships Kraft said were the “standard” at Penn State (which is interesting given that the last Natty was in 1986 when Joe was coach and the last Big was in 2016 under Franklin). But we shall see. By the way, the fanboys don’t deserve anything other than each coach’s best effort.

Can you imagine telling Georgia fans their expectations were too high after they fired Mark Richt (who accomplished a lot more than Franklin did at Penn State)? Rahne is too accustomed to Vanderbilt level expectations. He was never a good fit at a big time program like Penn State.
Franklin massively underachieved at Penn State. At some point, you have to win games against big boy programs.
BGJ could never find an OC and as you said never had an offensive system. The Drew Allar era was just flat out criminal.
Correct Marshall; never on the players except maybe when someone other than Franklin is the coach.
It's been established right here that the HFC is responsible for missed tackles, slipping DBs and interceptions. That is no longer negotiable and will apply to all future regimes. Game on.
"We deserve better" and only Franklin is responsible for our drought of 50 years. LOL
