Regardless of if he signed a contract or not, the ruling that the P4 made is that anyone who enters and goes through the draft process without withdrawing by the deadline is ineligible. Just think it’s interesting that he’s the first c/o 2021 to gain eligibility

But isn't this just like the Mitchell "withdraw". He believed his eligibility was up so he didn't have the need to withdraw? If he didn't sign a contract, there isn't a difference between him and Mitchell based of the TRO. The issue becomes he already had 5 years but redshirted one of them.

On a related not, I'm not a big video game guy, but there is one game I recommend to any student of the US Civil War. It's on Steam, and it's called Grand Tactitician. It's probably the most realistic RTS game I've played. You choose the year and side that you start out with. The armies are the same size as they were during the US Civil War. You have supply trains, national morale, etc. You can even persuade the Europeans to support your cause as the South in a rewriting of history.

The battle scale is also impressive. You can set command delays and acquire/upgrade different forms of artillery. You can also have your troops building defenses, use terrain such as creeks and hills, etc. It's a completely immersive game that I can longer even log into for fear of it consuming an entire evening.

They are also coming out with one for the Napoleonic Wars.

It's an awesome game. Every general from the Civil War is in the game, so when you create a new unit you can recruit the particular officer to lead the unit. You can also transfers troops between armies, but it takes time for them to get there, and you need to manage supply depots along the way. There's even a prison system for taking and exchanging prisoners.

Additionally, you don't have to stick to historical scripts. I had Patrick Cleburne leading an army of about 90,000 men out in northern Missouri, trying to enter into St. Louis. If you hold an area (I took Nebraska and Kansas from the union), you can then recruit troops from that area after a certain time. Bad generals like Braxton Bragg were demoted to brigade or regiment commanders. Meanwhile as Cleburne was doing his thing in Missouri, I had Stonewall Jackson holding TN and invading Kentucky, and Longstreet, Early, Stuart, Johnston, etc. defending Virginia.

There are difficulty levels with the AI. I've never won on the hardest level. They also have you invest money into railroads, new markets, create a navy, defend ports, etc. Even disease and desertion can play a factor in your armies.
