LSU is safe (obviously) but Lane may get suspended

Not sure it'll even go that far, but folks in the SEC seem perturbed. Lane just always seems to skate by, so I'd be surprised if they actually punish him in any way. That seems to be the general sentiment, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Coaches and ADs in the league are fed up with Lane's perpetual antics. That he stirred up such a major controversy before coaching even one game at LSU has many wanting to send him a message to knock it off.

Odd that the basketball team was brought into this. Just going off memeory, but I thought we had a thread this summer about ncaa basketball teams bringing in D league guys? I thought that was now okay?

I will say, I don't know why the SEC didn't raise holy h*ll when Bama brought back that Bediako guy, who the played in several games. There were no threats of expulsion from the league or anything.

You know where the SEC is headquartered, right? Same situation as a certain tandem of schools with blue colors in the ACC.

I think the difference here is the SEC is angry that LSU tried to flaunt the SEC's authority in court. It's not really what LSU did but how they did it.

Also LSU has a long history of flaunting rules, and perhaps the rest of the SEC just got tired of it.

It was obviously illegal at the time. But I do have to chuckle when past recruiting violations of paying players comes up.

At least we dont have to pretend these guys aren't getting paid anymore.

Lane needs to be slapped down. He has gotten far too big for his britches. He has never won a championship of any kind, but he acts like he is some sort of standard bearer for coaching and is above being questioned.

The SEC needs to hand down some sort of punishment for him and/or LSU for challenging the SEC on a policy it implemented. The conference has to send a message that a coach, player or school had better not think they are bigger than the conference.

If they really want to impact Kiffin with a suspension they'll restrict his access to the LSU coeds. ;)

Mike Elko summed it up pretty well: what's happening with LSU is like a kid testing to see where the limits are until dad gets home and raises his voice, then then kid says he was just kidding.

Kiffin = Attention Seeker

Attention seeking behavior is to act in a way that is likely to elicit attention. Attention seeking behavior as a pathological personality trait is defined in the DSM-5 as "engaging in behavior designed to attract notice and to make oneself the focus of others' attention and admiration". This definition does not ascribe a motivation to the behavior and assumes a human actor, although the term "attention seeking" sometimes also assumes a motive of seeking validation. People are thought to engage in both positive and negative attention seeking behavior independent of the actual benefit or harm to health. In line with much research and a dynamic self-regulatory processing model of narcissism, motivations for attention seeking are considered to be driven by self-consciousness and thus an externalization of personality rather than internal and self-motivated behavior. Attention seeking is often caused by threats to one's self-concept and the need for social acceptance. This type of influence on behavior can result in a potential loss of a person's sense of agency, personality disorder and the behavior associated with these conditions.

An excessive need for attention is often a symptom of an underlying personality disorder and can lead to difficulties in interpersonal relationships.

I've just realized that I could have been coach at LSU right now.

I think you and the SEC are falling right into the trap Lane is setting. Lane will gladly take a suspension for a period to seem like some type of martyr for the rights of players. He will be using that to recruit the minute the suspension gets handed down. SEC just needs to take the W and move on. You got Lane and LSU to back down. He towed the line and blinked. Let's move on with the season.

No punishment for LSU or Kiffin. Probably the smart move as ad noted above. Lane was probably baiting them into a bigger fight.

As it is, he wanted NFL players on his roster and the SEC forced him to back down from it.

It is probably the smart move. He tried something, was told not to. The lawyers got involved and he backed off.

I would get behind a suspension if he played them, or maybe even dressed them out for the game.
