Nah, if my job depended upon the next year’s productivity. I would do anything I can to make sure I’m equipped with the best possible chance to succeed. They have the money. Who gives a crap if it comes off as “desperate”.
Desperate is not the issue, have you not paid attention to the LSU vs SEC story. Things aren’t as simple as you’re making it

I still don’t understand how it isn’t unfair to tell one class only they can’t play a 5th year and then let them sign pro contracts and then tell them they can play a 5th year but only if they hadn’t signed pro contracts
The NCAA did not say they could play a fifth year. The court made that temporary decision. The B1G and SEC have rules in addition to the eligibility rule of the NCAA. He can play, just not in leagues with such rules.

Guy can make more in college than pros, crazy to think about. I would be pretty surprised if UK reaches out to him and has legit conversations on joining the team.

Pope won't add anyone we collectively want at this point. Mitchell was his Gettysburg campaign. He went all in on that one and it failed. He will still win some battles like Lee did in '64 and '65, but Appomattox is inevitable at this point.
Wow, I have to say that was an impressive historical analogy and I am not being sarcastic..... well done.

So if this guy signed a contract and isn't going to be eligible in the SEC then what's all the hype about? Just informing people that a random player got a court order or was we supposed to be a player in this?

The fact that you think Pope is Lee and not Grant shows your ignorance
Grant won big all through the West before Lincoln made him Lieutenant General. His Vicksburg campaign was genius.

That would the the equivalent of Pope having made multiple Final Fours at BYU. Instead, Pope never won even a single tourney game pre-Kentucky.

Pope is more like General John Pope, who got schooled at 2nd Bull Run while possessing superior resources against the smaller army that routed him.

So thank you, I'm going to start referring to Mark Pope as John Pope from now on.

Where are you seeing that he signed a contract?

I suddenly have an urge to watch Gettysburg. I wonder what streaming service it is on.
Great movie! Berenger, Sheen, Daniels, and Elliot were incredible. Berenger's performance as Longstreet was a masterclass. Sam Elliott's 10 minute cameo was the stuff of Shakespeare.

On a related not, I'm not a big video game guy, but there is one game I recommend to any student of the US Civil War. It's on Steam, and it's called Grand Tactitician. It's probably the most realistic RTS game I've played. You choose the year and side that you start out with. The armies are the same size as they were during the US Civil War. You have supply trains, national morale, etc. You can even persuade the Europeans to support your cause as the South in a rewriting of history.

The battle scale is also impressive. You can set command delays and acquire/upgrade different forms of artillery. You can also have your troops building defenses, use terrain such as creeks and hills, etc. It's a completely immersive game that I can longer even log into for fear of it consuming an entire evening.

They are also coming out with one for the Napoleonic Wars.

Exactly!

I mean, I only wish this modern world of ours offered some way to do research that would offer clarity on whether or not he signed a contract and other potential issues w/r/t his eligibility.

Someone really should invent such a technological marvel.

(Sarcasm not directed at you, Ganner.)
