I might be wrong but I believe that Chad Morris wasn’t a great hire. It reminds me of some of the lazy hires that we have experienced.
I knew a few days back that something was off when clemson announced that morris would be on the sidelines instead of being upstairs in the booth.

Dabo was also less than enthusiastic about the QB position days before the game. He said the true freshman was making a good run at starter (rarely a good sign) before making some freshman mistakes in practice. So he was going with Vizzina. Hardly a ringing endorsement. Kiffin took away any possible excuses by not playing the 3 NFL guys.

Dabo thought he could beat then NIL system because players would want to come to Bugtussle and be developed over time. All in, LOL! He completely dropped the ball and the taters will never recover from this. Players want the money now, they will transfer to make $5 more somewhere else, there is no loyalty or development of players now. Dabo was completely delusional when he chose his NIL strategy.

Tater U is in disarray. They have financial troubles, there is a huge scandal with their BOT, nobody wanted to be president of their school. I love it!

to be brutally honest, IMO players were going to klimpsun because they knew they would throw up GAWDY stats againt lesser opponents than the SEC or Big10 and would increase their Draft Stock. NOW that everyone else is also PAYING players, they want to make $$$ NOW!!

I don't relish Dabo's downfall only b/c I'm philosophically aligned with him on what college football should be.

It's an unfortunate state of affairs that a coach who values player retention, loyalty to the players on his roster, player development and graduation is considered an out-of-touch dinosaur. These were the hallmarks of college football for generations.

Mainly, it makes me sad that it is absolutely impossible to compete if you aren't 100% all-in on NIL and the portal, and willing to do anything and everything necessary in that space.

Dabo's the last coach hanging on who has refused to fully adapt or just retire.

That was one of my first thoughts - Glad the taters didn't get to use the "But they had NFL players" excuse!

Im torn on this. On one hand I want CU destroyed every game but that
that means CU will get a new coach who will use the portal

I am not too worried about the latter. Coaching hires are a total crapshoot. Clemson made one of the luckiest coaching hires in CFB history with Dabo. I think Clemson fans are utterly delusional to think all they need is a coach who will use NIL and the portal to the max and they will get back to the top.

They were able to sell recruits on CU.

Take away Watson & Lawrence and what happens to their great run of top ranked teams?

dabo knew didn't have stud qb and made no attempt to lure one from portal.
I don't see portal as big factor , basically historically good teams are still good,
what it does allow is historically bad Indiana to catch lightning in bottle,
? is do they have determination to maintain that level. cignatti has long coaching experience,
beamer not so much r we going to b good, maybe, but 1st 2 games r laughable and tells us nothing.
dabo going nowhere, 60mil buyout, and they did get lucky when hired him. he has choice, get on board nil train,
or wallow in misery

Those teams were still loaded with talent. I bet they would have still been contenders, or at least top 5-8 type teams.

Imo they are delusional if they think changing to a pro-NIL coach will make them suddenly contenders. They dont have the money for it.

It may make them better, but not contenders.

Yep. Clemson fans are nuts if the think a new coach is going to get them back to the mountaintop.

The stars just aligned there for Clemson for a good while. They struck lightning with the Dabo hire. He showed an uncanny knack for hiring good assistants. They were recruiting insane talent at all positions. But everything dried up.

For one reason or another, the recruiting started drying up. Then he lost Venables and Elliott in the same off-season to HC jobs. And he has not been able to adequately replace them. Then the entire landscape of the sport changed with NIL and the portal.

Just getting a new coach isn't going to fix problems. We're as in as can be on NIL and the portal and it hasn't made us a contender.

Hothead at it again. Last Saturday night still stinging him.

I don't have a problem with his response. As ugly of a game as it was, and it was as ugly as you'll see between two P4 teams, it still goes down as one loss. He just said "ask me about the roster after we've played 12 games" which is fair. I don't know what kind of season Clemson will go on to have, but they only play one ranked team the rest of the way. Dabo is still a player development coach....maybe the last one left in college football. Maybe they are as bad as they looked on Saturday. Maybe the players will get better. No idea. But whoever asked that question was obviously trying to bait Dabo into saying he needed to blow up the roster and start from scratch after Game 1.

It is the way he answered the question. If he just answered the question saying he has no reservations about his roster and the team just performed poorly and Louisiana State is very competitive team that would have been a reasonable response. What he did in which he does frequently was attack the reporter. When you are paid 11 million dollars annually you should be able to handle the pressure.

Well, I once saw our head coach ban a reporter from being in pressers so I guess it could be worse :ROFLMAO:

I can easily see Clemson going back to pre Watson levels of success, 8 or 9 win regular seasons and being a talented, if not elite, football team. Their schedule will always be pillow soft because of the conference they play in. Throw in a couple cupcake games, and 8 wins is almost guaranteed. What will be interesting will be to see how their fans react. The Clemson fans I know have as much a sense of entitlement as Bama fans do.

Clemson not winning a championship, but winning 9 or 10 games a year isn't something South Carolina fans should make fun of.

If Dabo wants to get rid of Morris, soon or by mid season, I hear Jeff Scott is available,

But I'm sure Dabo can turn to his special assistants like Lorenzo Ward to help get it fixed vs fire people.

I will say I get sick of folks like Finebaum sitting on the sidelines and calling on national tv for another man to lose his job. Finebaum says all sorts of crazy things that he's never held accountable for. Should he lose his job b/c his predictions fall flat?
