Thoughts on Temple game?

A few storylines to follow:
-Former PSU QB Jaxon Smollick is Temple's starting QB
-Former PSU DT Kaleb Artis either starts or is first DT off bench for Temple

For PSU it's first road game under HCMC. Let's see how they respond
-Will Burkle (TE) and Tatsch (LBer) get some PT as they recover? How about Jeremiah Cooper, more PT?
Does Nick Soriani (Eagles HC) make an appearance on the sidelines to encourage his former MOUNT UNION College teamate, Matt Campbell?
Homecoming for PSU players Cam Smith (St. Joe's Prep) and Jackson Fird (Malvern Prep)

I expect Temple to be a step up in competition from Marshall. I can't get PSU's last visit to the LINC against Temple - disasterous.

Your thoughts?

I will be attending this “away game.” I think Temple is the toughest opponent of the ooc schedule. Similar to Marshall in that they have a much better offense than they do defense. I would guess we similarly get around 45 points but we could give up a few scores. It is a veteran OL, so it’ll be valuable experience for our new DL.

Ehhh--I don't think Temple is much better (or even better) than Marshall. They at least got a warm up game against Rhode Island to prepare for us unlike Marshall but I'm expecting it to look very similar. Score will likely be a little closer but all Penn State.

I'm just looking for to the start of Big Ten play--just win and avoid injuries. I don't care if that win is 3-2.

As long as the players don’t take Temple lightly because of their overwhelming success against Marshall, they should be okay. I don’t think this game is going to be a cakewalk due to the intrastate rivalry. See UM vs. Western Michigan. But I think Campbell will have his boys ready.

Hopefully we can sack or get pressure on Smolik early. I was not sold on him as the guy after Grunk. I think he can give PSU a TO or two.

Hopefully see more than the vanilla run game stuff and more of the TE in play, though they "obviously" weren't needed.

Temple's OL has issues and that was before 3 starters went out on Sat.
So the last line might be the reverse of what it was in 2014.

One OL starter didn't even play and 2 others left the game and didn't return.

I hope we see a turnover or two by our defense.

We aren't going to have any idea what kind of team we have on our hands until we face Wisky ... if we can manhandle them, there's possibly something there. If we battle throughout in a competitive game, we're pretty blah. If we lose competitively, we're completely blah. If we lose noncompetitively, we have huge issues.

Marshall, Temple and Buffalo ... all should be handled easily, even if we're not a particularly good squad.

You just want to see improvement at QB and the running game ... and see if there are any cracks in the armor in the secondary. Otherwise, stay healthy and power through these opening weeks.

KC Keeler is a good coach (ex-Delaware Blue Hens; Sam Houston) and will have Temple ready to play. Reading the box score of their game vs. URI it appears they put emphasis on running the ball. They might play a two QB system with their starter being a dual threat and Smolik more of a pure passer.

Pretty much agree. I didn’t think Wiscy looked that much better. Their QB was ehhh and their secondary looked shaky

Wisconsin was pretty much outclassed by Notre Dame, they had a chance to win only if they played mistake-free football. How this relates to PSU I got no idea.

For me, it's time for some real payback against these bums. Temple's fan base has been one of the worst slanderous towards Penn State than some others. I'll bet they are so proud of alum Bill Cosby.

I don't see a consecutive shutout. DL has to bring the heat on Smolick early and get him out of rhythm. Have to do some research on their running game and RBs.

I didn't watch any of the Temple opener--is Smolik even their true #1?
Sheppard started for them
They both played--even on the same drive

He was early on in camp but I guess that changed. I was not aware he was beaten out for the starting position.

Set the tone early by being physical, dominating and getting ahead. Put the backups in by mid 2nd half. No injuries! Look for Howard to have another big day.

It looks like they both played--no real reason to when they did. Temple appears to be run heavy
Smolik 4/6 57 yards and a score
Sheppard 5/10 for 85 yards--run for 23
They're going to need a much better pass game against us to even hang around

Can’t get a read on the sarcasm meter here. Have Temple people really been bad? I’ve never witnessed that.

My daughter is a currently a sophomore at Temple. Best I can tell, they don’t care.

Stick around here long enough and you'll read some incredible opinions. "Payback and bums?" Is this a nonconference football game against an over matched opponent or a mob hit? LOL

Pretty much no one cares or brings it up unless we do....excluding the random drunk at a game
