Don’t want to hear any BS about NIU being trash

Many teams played trash this weekend and Iowa utterly dominated both sides of the ball while many showed weakness against lesser opponents. Iowa never flinched. Plenty of things to work on but my god that was an *** beating by both lines.

they did what they’re supposed to do. Not many can say that.

Yep 100%

There will always be things to work on after the 1st game

Dropped balls and short yardage were really the only things worth noting. I don't see the dropped balls being a concern this season. VDZ and DJ are too good. Passing game looked great considering

By 2026 CFB standards, this was one of if not the worst team Iowa has played in the 2020s. Sorry if you don't like hearing that (i.e.......disagree 🫢🫢🫢🫢)

Great game to get a ton of reps for the 2nd and 3rd string guys in the 2nd half. I feel like coaches know we have a young team and this was a great chance to have guys show what they got

A ton of positives to take away from this *** beating

Only complaint was Buhr missing his first PAT and FG. But he recovered and made his next 4 PATs and next 2 FGs.

Now we know he can recover from mistakes. I feel pretty secure with a guy who can do that.

Iowa looked great in all 3 phases, especially with Brown in.

And I fully approve of your message! I saw it in person and it was absolutely a manhandling job by both sides of the ball… hell of a damn game and very happy with this win

this was one of the worst teams I’ve ever seen….and that’s saying something cause Iowa has played some absolute trash the last decade or so….

i felt bad for NIU. I know they were probably trying their best….but it really looked like they were there for a pay day and to not get hurt.

there was nothing. Other than the INT, i honestly can’t remember a single play of their offense.

No clue what ISU has as haven’t paid one ounce of attention to their program this summer. Has to be a step up in competition….

I think it’s ok to acknowledge that NIU is horrible and an easy win. But it’s also true that in years past, Albany, South Dakota St, UNI, Utah State, and even NIU - we even lost to a 2-4 Purdue team to start the season in 2020 (before it was shortened) - should have all been easy wins but weren’t. Point being, it’s not always as easy as it should be for the Hawks in game one, and today they definitely at least took care of business.

we did beat Illinois state 40-0 to start the season in 2024 and then lost to isu 20-19 at home the next game. Here’s to righting that wrong next week!!!!

NIU typically has a good team and well coached. That wasn’t the case yesterday. That team looked unprepared, men against boys. NIU was trash.

Cannot generalize after only one game.
Western mich was pick to win the Mac and looked the part vs mich

NIU was picked much lower in league.
I am sure they get raided hard in portal with lot of Chicagoland players who are looking for payday.
Not much loyalty to suitcase school like NIU.

They were picked so low in the MAC that many just moved them right to the bottom of the Mountain West.

You're right. But also, NIU is horrible. Some of us can't help but recall when Hayden Fry opened against Top Ten and Top Twenty teams. OMG. The difference is almost immeasurable. In 1979, Fry's first season, he opened with Big Ten foe Indiana (L, 30-26) followed by @ #3 Oklahoma (L, 21-6) and #7 Nebraska at home (L, 24-21). Iowa also lost later that season to #15 Purdue, 20-14.

1980: (Frys's second season): @ Indiana (W, 16-7), #6 Nebraska (L, 57-0), Iowa State (L, 10-7)

1981: (Frys' third season - Big Ten Title - Rose Bowl - first winning season since 1961): #7 Nebraska (W, 10-7), Iowa State (L, 23-12), #6 UCLA ( W, 20-7).

Hayden said Iowa's nonconference schedules were too difficult, so as soon as he could he adjusted them. He said an ideal nonconference schedule would be one cupcake, a 50-50 game, and a challenge. KF's ideal nonconference schedules have been one cupcake, ISU, and another cupcake. In 20 years, Fry's teams played about 23 Top Twenty teams in the nonconference. In 27 years, KF's teams have played about 3. Just for the record.

Hecklinski is a much better runner and was victimized by several dropped passes. The offense has an extra dimension, the running QB, with him in there. I didn't see Brown do anything that Hecklinski cannot do, but I did see Hecklinski run, which Brown cannot match. There's more to this than just the numbers because, as you may know, numbers can lie. Frankly, I think Iowa has two very good QBs, and although Sullivan played with his hands tied behind his back, thanks to KF, he looks above average as well. And then Tradon Bessinger, the freshman, may be the best of them all.

In reality, NIU is ranked as one of the ten worst teams in the entire country, and that's exactly what they looked like yesterday. It's okay to be honest. The facts are the facts. Iowa looked good, but NIU is horrible.

That was a bad team, but that was as good a first half of football that Iowa has played in many years. Take out the dropped passes and initial kicking woes and it might have been as good a half of football as I've ever seen from an Iowa football team.

Diaz is easily the best receiver Iowa's had this decade, but receivers and tight ends need to catch all of the easy passes. This can be a very good year.

Can we say that NIU being garbage isn’t BS now? ISU isn’t good and they are way better than NIU.
No because you need to read what I said. NIU is hot garbage. My point was that doesn’t take away Iowas performance. Iowa, a team that constantly struggles in those type of games.

I worded my response poorly. I meant it in response to what you were saying. It was clear last night that Iowa’s performance against NIU was because they are complete garbage so it’s not BS to say that. We looked terrible for most of the game last night against a bad team. Defense couldn’t get pressure, weren’t covering that great, and we couldn’t run the ball. Both lines got beat for 55 minutes of the game. Against inferior competition.
