NO MORE EXCUSES. POPE HAD same opportunity as other coaches to recruit this roster with freshman and transfers. He had plenty of money and way more than money than only a few select teams this year. He missed on many of his first choices which is consistent with past performance by Pope but he has 14 players. He did miss on number 15 but if his plan was to try and get one of your most important players in late august your plan was flawed to begin with. STOP THE EXCUSES HE EITHER MAKES THIS WORK OR HE DOESN'T.

He is a terrible in game coach. He sits there with his hands on his knees and looks lost most of the time. Wait until he tries to manage playing time with 14 people. This will be a disaster this season.

UK played almost the entire season without what would have been their starting PG and Center.

You don't know how much he was actually paid beyond rumor. Would it not be fair to assume the best shooter in basketball would justly come at a premium? It seems you just pulled this overpaid claim out of your butt because of your bias against the coach.
I would not expect it to be a big problem by November though if the best shooter in college BB shoots it poorly it must be considered as a legitimate reason affecting it. Legitimate reason and excuse are not the same thing but I assume you would call it that anyway. Hopefully it never becomes an issue but I am responding to this since you seem to be already preparing an attack on the coach just in case it does become an issue.

Accepting it and simply not spewing nothing but hate and vile while demanding everyone involved be immediately fired are two different things. I have seen only one poster advocate for just accepting lower standards going forward. While I hesitate to say he is just a troll and a sock account of one of the non-stop negative posters I do have to wonder if that is in fact the case.

Pope has coached two seasons against the highest quality SEC in history with a roster badly plagued by injury issues. Just based on the number of teams top 4 would be top quarter the same as what 3rd used to be with 12 teams. UK would very likely have been tied for fourth last season if not for a crooked call against Auburn. I only know of one poster who has not taken the position that it must improve and I don't know if he is for real or just playing games.
With 16 teams now and the current quality of the league top 3 consistent finishes for UK are no longer the given they once were. Just having a healthy roster most of the year could make all the difference but only time will tell. It will be difficult to crack the top 3 with 4 SEC teams likely starting the season ranked in the top 10.
Comparisons to Indiana's struggles covering most of the last four decades are absurd. Indiana has finished in the top 20 three times in the last 25 years for example. UK has done it 16 times in the same amount of time and 7 times in the last 10 seasons including 12th in Pope's first season.

We started that game out so well, it was like one adjustment and we had no answers. I’ll never understand that game. The lack of PG yeah, but Pope teams seem to either be on fire or totally not in games.
I think it was mostly a matter of cranking up the ball pressure and we just did not have the ball handling to survive it.

Pretty fair. His lack of defensive acumen is going to bite him in the arse. But his offenses are pretty good, especially if the personnel fits. He’s got to find the correct mix of guys that fit his offense that can be more than a small speed bump defensively.
The issue with that team is still what keeps me cautiously optimistic at best. Even when healthy they were wildly inconsistent. Darned good at times, inexplicably bad at times. I did enjoy that team though.

I did too. I knew we were going to lose to Tennessee. UT had a solid squad, beating them three times while shorthanded was asking a lot. I think fully healthy, we were the better team. I don't want excuses for Pope, and regardless, he won't be able to fall back on injuries this season, so he is doing the right thing trying to add a 15th player

So?? That doesnt mean anything, the lesser team wins sometimes, thats how it works, st peters, oakland, this yr vs arkansas all show that sometimes the better team doesnt always win

I think this is a good team that will not lose 10 games and predict Pope will keep getting better in recruiting.
It would nice to have a great year with Milan making an AA run. That would help with College elite players, maybe some high school recruiting would be nice if Williams balls out. He will make his living on transfers though. Need the studs to ball out. I think Wilkins will be a beast.
If it was broken wouldn’t it be taped to the other finger? Looks like he could have maybe broken the tip of his finger or jammed it.

Butler was an outstanding get as was Amari Willams. Denzel as well. Thinking Diallo and Wilkins and Moreno are not quality players is wrong. I will agree that we haven't had a elite players which we should have..
You are insisting the better team with the better coach has gone 1 and 4 in two seasons and that key injuries were not a major factor in getting the one win? It is very hard to take you serious and to buy that you actually believe this to be true.
