SEC crowd attendance is going to be probably the thinnest ever this month.

Forecasted temps in the high 90s for the first couple weeks and extended low 90s in the long range.

There may not be 20-30 k actual headcount total in Tuscaloosa this weekend.

It will be interesting to see what the tailgate scene looks like on Saturday. There's hot (and dry) and there's this with no end in sight. I can't imagine being out there. Nice to have a 6:30 kick but the run up is going to be stifling.

Anyone going to give it a try?

On a related note, I cannot remember a season with this little hype within my personal circle here in Birmingham. Dating back to 2002, I've never seen the Auburn and Alabama fans I know this disinterested in talking SEC football.
I have one subgroup talking about the LSU stuff, and that is it.

Auburn is as down as I've seen, and Alabama has now acknowledged that their spoiled rotten days with Saban are over and it'll be a long time, if ever, before they return. They just aren't the epicenter anymore.

I promise you Georgia, LSU and Ole Miss fans are fired up. Heck even we seem to have a little hope for an ascension.

But your point remains, the whole 'fanboy' stuff has been a little tamped down, with the NIL/portal stuff.

IMO your last sentence is key and despite all the propaganda about tv ratings it's going to be interesting to see how this all plays out long term.

Ratings are lagging indicators but feet on the street chatter and excitement are leading indicators. In my extremely small sample size of people I've been exposed to over the years that used to get jacked up about college football season they are no longer overly excited. We love football and we are going to consume it like most red blooded Americans but the fanaticism has peaked and is going in the other direction for us.

I distinctly remember sitting in the student section just waiting for the sun to PLEASE drop below to top of the west side. But yes, it’s September and it’s hot. Nothing new.

My seats on the West side will be shaded by 5:30. I am not going to sit in the stands until it is.

Lot of individual tents already set up (in addition to the southern tradition tents). It will be a decent crowd.

There were 96000 at South Carolina at kickoff. Temp was announced at 96 degrees.

ETA: Hottest game in Williams Brice history at 99 degrees. It's a sellout.

I remember attending a game at Davis Wade agains Auburn in the mid-late 90s when it was over 100. I think 103 was the official high. We were on the east side around mid-field.

And of course, there was the game in Memphis in the early 2000s that was miserable.

Just saw a Home Depot ad featuring Nick Saban making a sandwich. Advertisers really need to stop using coaches and player in ads - they're just not actors.

Announcers tend to exaggerate. The sideline gal in Tuscaloosa said the heat index was 120, so I checked the official numbers from the NWS. It's 95 in Tuscaloosa with a heat index of 103.

Same where I am. Even the rabid Alabama fans in my golf group haven't mentioned the team or the start of the season. I didn't even know who Alabama's QB was before the game started. I think that loss to Indiana last season really go to them.

Good crowd tonight considering the heat. State does need to totally rebuild that west side to drop capacity and add premium seating but.... maybe we start 4-0 and have a capacity crowd for bama.
