I'm a little more optimistic than you. I see ceiling at 5 and floor at 8.

We came in 4th last year and by all reports should be better this year.
Yes the Big East appears to be much improved but most have many new pieces, so how all these teams gel, including ours, will be the big question.
For a ceiling of 5 there must be 4 teams that you feel at our best we can't overcome. Uconn, St Johns and Nova are the obvious 3, but who is the 4th? I'm not ready to put Provy, Marquette, Cray or X def. ahead of us yet.
To be clear I'm not picking us to finish 4th but I do think that's our ceiling if our chemistry and defense come together like last year.
I like our possibilities on offense and I like our coach. Go Pirates!
I believe I am more high on Providence than most others. So they along with UConn, SJU and Nova would be my top 4.
Injuries will be a very important consideration since it seems so many teams are close in potential.
In the past since I was an undergraduate I could always point to a couple of players on SHU's roster who I did not believe had the ability to contribute in a positive way. This season, admittedly sight unseen so far, I do not know who the last player in the team's rotation/bench will be.

My biggest concerns with this team are point guard, Wilcher being looked on to be the team’s best player, no real good wing, and probably the worst front court in conference sans butler. I like the upside of Williams but he was FAU’s 4th best player and they were bad last yr. Copeland best juco but didn’t play against any comp.

Funny, earlier this morning I was thinking that very same thing on who our last players off the bench would be.
First off have we ever had 14 true scholarship players on the team before? None of these players are walk ons. Plus we have no development players like Mbaye etc who were never playing any minutes.
A month ago the last 2 players to get in a game were probably thought to be Payday and Fanta Kabba and now we are getting reports on the surprise play of both and how they should get some minutes.
Roddie Anderson who is reportedly our 3rd point guard, played in the Big East last year and averaged 11 PPG.
Sight unseen I'd probably choose the recent pickup Ilay Dolinski as the last guy on the bench but who knows.
This is where I am right now based on last season and everything posted here to date about the summer, workouts, etc.
I like our size, depth and shooting better than last season. I'm a little more optimistic.
I’m always optimistic in September and October. Can we finish 6th and stay in the NCAAT conversation? My concern as posted elsewhere is that our two strongest positions last year were PG (Clark) and center ( Payne and Hines). On paper that does not appear to be the case this season. I’m very intrigued by the possibilities and can’t wait for the season to start.
I think we have better overall talent this year, we are deeper 1 thru 3. But if I'm looking at pure talent and if I would trade rosters with other BE teams, there are only maybe 2 teams I wouldn't trade rosters with. So talent-wise we are 9th or 10th. Sha has shown ability to overachieve more often than not so I think our ceiling could be as high as 5th but we are more likely to fall in the 7 to 9 range given the talent added by other teams..
I'd feel much better about this team if they brought Budd back. Trade a couple of these guards for Clark and we are an NCAAT team. Clark had really nothing around him offensively last year. This year's team has more options who can score and Clark would have found them. Not to mention the immense force multiplier value of returning an All-BE PG for a 2nd year in the system.

His article, to me, on us suggests he knows very little, maybe next to nothing, about this yrs team.

I have been told the team chemistry is through the roof. The biggest two issues moving forward are the team's defense and point guard play.
13-7 in BE, decent OOC. finish 4th in league, 7 seed...Post Season - 1st round of the BET.
We kept giving the kid his “ask” or close to it. We didn’t lose him for $$ reasons IMO.
Fair enough and I agree that it sounds like we could have handled the negotiation better but he got a reported extra $500k from Mississippi. That isn’t chump change for a guy who has one last year to cash in.
I get that and because we aren’t privy to these things, we rely on what’s posted here.
What I do know is that Clark jumped a level, performed well playing for a coach who is a former PG and gave him the ball the entire game. Yet, he decided not to come back for that, even though he’d be playing games not far from where both he and his family are from. And make millions in the process.
Normally you’d expect a player with that profile, and zero competition for his role, to be a lock to come back when you offer to give him (apparently on multiple occasions) his asking price. Only for him to keep the asking for more, despite all the above, and shopping it around.
You can blame the player. His agent. The NIL environment. Among other things.
Or perhaps you can look to something else that seems to play some role in why our better players - or even Sha favorites like DAW - want to go elsewhere.
I think it’s probably a myriad of factors. Just like I’ve been told repeatedly that the UConn folks where in the ear of Hines camp back in January about all the bigs Hurley and staff have developed recently and helped get to the NBA.
When isn't it? We could be the best defensive team in the BE and Sha would still be melting down about it. Gotta love that though.
Excited to hear about the chemistry. Seems a lot of parity on the team which is forcing the best out of each player. We'll see if that holds up when minutes are doled out.
It is how you get to the ask. One of the reasons a GM is key. Getting to the ask reluctantly, opens the door to other suitors. My opinion of what has been our biggest issue the last few years.
