I couldn’t agree more. A buddy from KC called me a while back with the same type of request. A guy had gotten his kid an internship. Wanted to show him some love. Asked me what to get. Told him to get him the 13. He couldn’t find it and my local place had gotten a case. Grabbed one and delivered next time I was up there. Got a taste of it and it was amazing. Thing I like, it’s aged and damned near hazmat. I think I paid $325ish OTD. I liked it well enough I grabbed a 10 yr for half the price of the 13. The 10 yr I got was 128 proof and so good.If he’s an afficianado, he probably has the Buffalo Trace stuff. Here is something a little different, that is excellent. If he likes aged, high proof bourbon, Buckners is doing some great things. The 13 year old is the way to go!

For sure. It’s not my thing, but I have no issues. Beats the hell out of what big pharma has done with opioids.
I picked up a RR SiB store pick from a local grocery store here around Christmas time for $65. Ridiculously good. That bottle barely made it a week. Lol
The 10 is very good as well. Just picked up a bottle a couple weeks ago. Mine’s only 117 proof, which really is right in my wheelhouse. Delicious stuff!

For the money it’s hard to beat Rare Breed, even for huge whiskey nerds. It’s just a damn good pour for a fantastic price.
Now that this has become a whiskey thread (I’m a huge fan of ryes and Scotch, plus others, on top of bourbon), I have to point out that one of my favorite trends of the past decade is all the craft distilleries and non-distilling blenders that have popped up across the US. Some of my favorite bourbons and ryes of the past 5 years have come from craft shops outside of KY. Copper & Cask Batch #16 (RI) and Frey Ranch Farm Strength (NV) are two of the best bourbons I’ve ever had, and I’ve had a lot. If you love whiskey and have the chance to do so, start experimenting with some of the smaller distilleries out there. It’s well worth your time and money.

I used to until it became legal. Now I literally can’t go anywhere without smelling it.
I’ve heard people say that where it’s legal. It doesn’t bother me one bit but I get not everyone is like me. I think weed smoke smells wonderful.
That’s crazy to me to spend for a bottle. I wouldn’t want to drink it but I would want to at the same time cause I paid that much for it. Am I wrong?

Huh? Heaven Hill makes some of the best bourbon on the market. The 22 year old is everyone’s whiskey of the year. It’s unbelievable. Nobody drinks their vodka.

That's fair. I was wrong to assume everyone should just know because of the assumption everyone just kept drinking beyond college and graduated up in consumption.
I can totally see how anyone that drank in college but actually put that behind them would just forever associate the brand with the absolute rot gut swill that was their vodka. It was truly terrible, but most importantly it was cheap.
Hopefully eventually the entire fanbase will understand how cool this is and, most importantly, its a fund source that isn't tapping the fanbase. So it's a massive win in my book.
Dead on balls accurate. I have a EC18 that I paid $200 for and I'm skittish about drinking it. It's the most I've personally ever paid. My wife has gotten me a few others a bit more and I take an ounce or two occassionally. Funny thing about the EC18, I'm just not a huge fan. Lol. It's good, don't get me wrong, but just doesn't suit my taste.
My local place has something they call grandpas liquor cabinet or something like that. Has a bunch of hard to find stuff that they sell in very generous and very reasonable one ounce pours. Buckners 13, OF11 and 9, all the Blendary bottles they've had, HH22, RR13 and RR15. You get it. Stuff you're not finding on the shelf. All very reasonable. For instance, I think I paid $20 or $25 for a HH22 one ounce. If you saw it at a bar it'd easily be $100 for a pour.
Yeah. I didn’t give up drinking but just not hip on my bourbon knowledge I guess. My pops always drank makers so that’s what I know.

Oh yeah. The 13 is amazing. The 15 is better but not for the extra $$$, imho. I’ve had them both at my local place that sells by the ounce.
Some of us have professional jobs that prevent stuff like that. Showing your age not realizing not everyone can do that.

No. It’s just like Pappy 20 vs 23. I personally prefer 20 but the difference is marginal. It’s like a fine wine. I personally think it’s easy to tell the difference between a 20 dollar bottle and an 80 dollar bottle. But for me the difference between a 200 dollar bottle and an 80 dollar bottle (I’m talking retail not at a restaurant) is pretty insignificant imo
No hangover but I eat everything in the house and then stay on the toilet for two days straight.
