Ok…I’ve really enjoyed reading this thread as I am 1) not a bourbon connoisseur and 2) looking to purchase a top shelf bourbon gift for someone who is truly an aficionado.
Not wanting to spend in the Pappy arena, but something in the $200-$300-ish range.
I know this is a highly subjective question but I’m interested in knowing what brand you would appreciate as a fine gift.
Thanks to all in advance.
If he’s an afficianado, he probably has the Buffalo Trace stuff. Here is something a little different, that is excellent. If he likes aged, high proof bourbon, Buckners is doing some great things. The 13 year old is the way to go!

I do a lot of that in the summer too. Costco's cristilino is about as good of a dollar for dollar purchase as a person can make, IMHO. I also like the earthiness of a good blanco on the rocks in the summer. Plus at 20-30/bottle I don't feel bad about watering it down.

That RR15 is one of my favs of the super aged stuff. It's popular here in MO. I'm on a local FB raffle page and those spots always fill quickly when someone is moving one.
Russel’s 15 is my favorite of all time. Unobtainable now other than secondary ($1,000 secondary) incredible Wild Turkey stuff!

Seriously, Beam wasn’t available? I used to drink nasty heaven hill vodka by the gallon in high school. I’m still hung over from it.
I'm not absolutely sure about it, but I think it's interesting to note that Heaven Hill is (or might be) the last family-owned major whiskey distiller in Kentucky, if not the nation.

Heaven Hill Distillery is widely recognized as the largest independent, family-owned and -operated producer of spirits headquartered in Kentucky, though other independent family-operated whiskey makers do exist on a smaller scale. [1]

Huh? Heaven Hill makes some of the best bourbon on the market. The 22 year old is everyone’s whiskey of the year. It’s unbelievable. Nobody drinks their vodka. 😂
Elijah Craig single barrel is my favorite bourbon. It is marketed at 15 (108 proof), 18 (90 proof) and 21 year-old (94 proof) bourbon and is pretty pricey, but it is very good, imho.

Had no idea there was a Kirklands cristallino will have to check that out the komos and herradura are great but extremely pricey. Tequila is just as much if not more expensive than bourbon nowadays

No kidding? Well I can get behind that.

Buy a bottle of Elmer T Lee. Better yet save $150 dollars and buy a bottle Wild Turkey Rare Breed for about 50 bucks that is just as tasty as most anything you spend 200 for.

During my almost 40 years of getting drunk every day I drank hundreds of gallons of Heaven Hill vodka. I'm that rare hard core alcoholic who quit, not due to treatment or a desire to get better, but because the desire to be drunk just went away for some reason. Now just the thought of drinking liquor is abhorrent.
May the Lord bless you buddy and help. Nothing wrong with it.

Ky is bourbon capital of the world. Lots of NIL $ to be had there. I'm not a drinker but it's not illegal and this is a great way for UK to make some $. Now Batt needs to schmooze some of the rich horse industry guys. Mitch was not a fundraiser kind of AD so change was needed.
It’s funny cause MB was supposedly known as a fund raiser. lol.

It's almost hard to answer as it really depend on their taste. Personally, I like the proofed up stuff. Think uncut/unfiltered. Some other guys, spending that much, would go for an Elijah Craig 15 or 18 yr. Just not my jam to have THAT much oak in the flavor profile. It's why I'm not a HUGE fan of the older Pappys bottles.

If they are like me...the two that immediately come to mind that you could probably get your hands on are the Augusta Buckners 13 yr and EHT Barrel Proof. I think you could still find the Buckners in stores, the EHTBP you're going to have to pay secondary. Both could be had for $250ish.

If they like the older aged statements/proofed down stuff...Weller 12 is REALLY good and you could probably get two bottles for that amount. EC15 or EC18 is awfully good according to my buddies that like the extreme aged spirits.
This is what I’m talking about. Bourbon drinkers are different man. I love it.

Depends on your tolerance and how much you take. It usually is a mellow time for me, but knew someone who drank a bit too much of one before an NBA game and he wasn't having a great time lol

Their barrel proof is sooooooo good. Grabbed a store pick where I live. Roughly 12 yr and was 128 proof. Best $85 I’ve spent in a while.

We really are. I’ve got a few buddies that are super into it and we can get way deep in the woods about it all. Blind taste tests with my buddies are a good time.

I’ve seen people waiting on a huge line at my local liquor store for I assume bourbon releases. It’s crazy and I love it.

Man, I am in Colorado, so, we have a bunch of different brands out here. I am more of a flower fan myself, but when I was trying the various drinks/edibles when I moved here it was usually Cannapunch and Keef. I've had sparkling waters with THC, sodas with THC, even seen some beers with THC.

There’s a store here that does a big release on Black Friday. The line of 30-50 yr old dudes starts at about 8pm on Thursday and the store opens at 6am on Friday. It’s intense. lol

What about the 13 year? I’ve seen it around $350 and it had fantastic reviews. Seems attainable, I found a couple 15 years for $1,500.

Do bourbon drinkers agree with legalizing weed? I obviously do. I partake in both.
It definitely should be. It’s so widespread now and legal so many places it should be. Treat it just like alcohol. 21, don’t drive high.

But Kentucky will be be the last state on do it. Shame. I’ll still get lbs from the plug.

just imagine the money the state isn’t getting. Kentucky grows the best Dro. I’ll take a Pepsis challenge with anyone who says different and I’ve smoked myself retarded numerous times.

Mitch was hired to clean up athletics and he seemed to do a decent job of that besides the swimming scandal and the UK hospital bs with the football team, I can’t think of any other scandals during his tenure. But Mitch was way out of his element in the NIL area. He was highly against paying players and we were very slow to adapt and that’s how we fell behind. Not to mention it seemed like we were the only program following ANY rules.

And Mitch was not good with money. He handed out high price contracts like tic tacs. Cal and Stoops were bad enough but he also gave Pope another year for getting a S16. Moron.
