Why is everyone so upset about an undrafted player scouting services rated poorly?

Mark Mitchell struggles with consistent outside shooting, mechanical shooting form, and limited playmaking capabilities off the bounce.

Offensive Limitations

•Poor spacing: Lacks a reliable three-point shot with a mechanical release and low shooting percentages.
  • Rigid ball-handling: Tends to play hunched over, rarely beats defenders with a dynamic dribble, and picks up the ball too early.
  • Slow processing: Can be slow making reads as a passer and rarely passes while on the move.
  • One-speed style: Relies heavily on physical tools rather than offensive creativity, sometimes disappearing for stretches of a game.

He'll be 1st team this year. But even if he is 2nd team, we still have a dude with 1 three minute highlight tape from Senegal, so WE'RE GOOD.

He is a highly overrated player if you look at the metrics.

Do a deeper diver on him, and the warts show.
4th best player in the portal by projected Bayesian Performance Rating for 2026-27. Ranked #6 in the portal by 247. The idea that he's not a playmaker is wild. He's an incredible playmaker for a PF. It's one of the strongest aspects of his game.

Wasting your time responding to this jackass. He’s Dirty Harry as well. He will be blocked from this username I imagine shortly. Unless telling someone they can suck off their dead friend is alright around here? If so? I’m feeling to go bananas.

What's wild is thinking the post you quoted said anything about playmaking. Your post says more about the portal than anything.

Learn to form your own opinion. Inconsistent out side shooting? He's a 6'10power forward , I wouldn't care if he ever took shot from outside. Give him the ball when you need a basket and see what happens. He scored on us whenever he wanted

I agree with that and my concern was that even with those limitations he would have been a top two player on this team.

That is more the problem than missing on him.

But he was not a fit anyway. Just highlights the circus that UK basketball has become under Pope.

Have some emotional strength, people. He’s a great player and we lost him. Cool, so we move on.

Needing to lash out at Pope over it is weakness.

Needing to tear Mitchell down to minimize the pain of losing him is weakness.

Weakness is bad, mmkay?

Don’t do that sh*t. Don’t be weak.

21% assist rate and 3.6APG(meaning he's a capable and willing passer). 12% turnover rate, but considering a 25% usage rate Id actually expect it to be closer to Amari WIlliams' 20%

.713 free throw rate(Moreno was even better in less usage)

4 or more assists in 14 of Missouri's 33 games

OP, I've wondered about this or at least have had similar thoughts. He's not NBA talent level talented. That said, I think it comes down to this: if you need points, you can give him the ball and he's going to get you points, at least at the college level. Milan keeps defenses honest on the perimeter and Mitchell would have kept defenses honest on the interior. That dynamic would have lead to awesome spacing for the whole team on offense.

Who did this analysis? Is this an NBA analyst looking at Mitchell and comparing him to NBA players? It sure seems like it.

You don't see too many college analysts saying a PF is a poor 3 point shooter.

We have got to stop using NBA standards when looking at college kids. We aren't the NBA draft, we are UK and UK plays at the college level.

The NBA is a totally different game, please realize that when you're judging potential UK players.

Mark Mitchell might not be an NBA talent, but he is a legit first team all SEC PF and would be a big problem for everyone we play… .at the college level.

There are some, mostly trolls but not all who look for any reason to run UK or Pope down.

Draft projections aren’t everything if the goal is simply to win games at the college level. Although a fringe NBA prospect, Mitchell is a proven college performer at a position where we otherwise have nothing but question marks. It isn’t that hard to see how he would have made us a better team even if you can nitpick certain parts of his game.

His post defense will be the key; if he defends the post like AJ did, then he won't be able to play against teams with a good low post four. His decent rebounding give me a little hope. I'm pretty well sold on him on the offensive end.

Questioning if Mark Mitchell is a big loss is amongst the all time worst Rupp Rafters threads. He would have been our best player, he was previous year all SEC - we currently have none, he played excellent in the SECT - I think Kam Williams made almost no contribution on an injured foot, he was a senior.

We suck again !

Are you sure you meant to reply to me? I'm only asking because I never even implied that Mitchell wasn't a big loss.

Because he likely would’ve been the best player on this team and given them a chance to be ACTUALLY good and not pretend good.

Mitchell is such a non-factor that both Calipari and Sankey came out publicly to make sure he didn't join the roster. He would have made a pretty big difference.

How many draft picks did Cal usually have on his teams? 4 or 5? How did that turn out for us since the world turned upside down in 2020?

He's a great college player who would've significantly raised our ceiling.

I just checked and we didnt have anywhere close to 4 or 5 draft picks a season from 2021 to 2024.

Recruiting and talent fell way off for cal last 4 seasons especially.
