Best Older People to Replace Trump as President

I get tired of the occasional attacks on old people and even the ageist attacks on Trump.

It took me 5 seconds to think of 2 older, living former presidential candidates who I'd rather have as President vs Trump. There are probably others but I've heard these 2 speak in recent days and they still have what it takes upstairs.

I'm hurt, I didn't see "BaltimoreNed" in any of these posts...I'd be a great President...What would Jesus do as secretary environment department, Dpic as communications director, tiger growls as secretary of state....what could go wrong. We'd have this country humming on day 1. (well that statement worked in 2024)

Presidents should be under the age of 80 when their term ends. I don’t care if that makes me ageist.

Yes there are exceptions, but there are exceptions on the younger side too. On average a 50 year old will make a far better president than an 80 year old.

On average 14 year old will make a better President than Trump.

Probably much younger than that, but I was trying to keep it reasonable.,

My father faced mandatory retirement at 65. No exceptions. He was an editorial writer who had been twice nominated for a Pulitzer, and was still firing on all cylinders.

It's never acceptable to draw the line on chronological age.

If we had a better way to judge capacity for the job I would agree. But we live in a world where Mitch McConnell is somehow still a sitting US senator.

Age might be unfair to the very small subset of talented exceptions, but it would prevent a lot more incompetence we saw since 2016.

I don't recall any libs on this forum calling for the 25th against autopen the day after the debate, if you could call it that, against Trump showed Joe to clearly be incapable of serving as president - which many of us already knew, but which dems had to admit, end the coverup, and remove him from the ticket.

I agree there are plenty of cases where it looks reasonable to say "too old." But, to take the case of McTurtle, I'm stuck with the overriding principle that voters should be able to decide.

We can help by having good political financing laws, truth in advertising, and other guardrails.

I voted for both these guys multiple times. Neither should be president anymore. Any 80 yo on the planet is at realistic risk of dying at any moment. In all honesty, 70 yos should be thinking about retirement.

it's the parties structure...I don't know how party members - those who actually vote at conventions - can pick their candidates without regard for their ability to run a nation. What qualifications should we expect from someone running a nation of 340million people. a budget of $5trillion, and the worlds best economies and militaries? Both parties keep picking politicians, lawyers, failed businessmen, community organizers....we somehow deserve what we get

I want to live in a society where 80 yos can retire. I don't want to live in a society where 80s have to keep clocking in every morning, for jobs most can no longer do, because we have this creepy belief that working until you die is in anyway noble.
