TCU deserved to lose. They could have twice kicked FG's instead choosing to go for it each time on 4th down. And they lost 15-10. Stupid.
I would just caution everyone, it’s the first week of college football. Very deceiving.

I’ve mentioned him here before and what he did at So Miss after Marshall. Same for his OC Kevin Decker from ODU. i read 71 new players this year at Memphis, 18 that came along with him from So Miss. It’ll interesting to see what he can do at Memphis. Definitely can be a launching pad into the P4 if he does well.

Had these rules been in place last year, Duke and Notre Dame would have replaced James Madison and Miami (Fla.) in the 12-team tournament.
Historical bowl ties will no longer figure into where top seeds are placed for CFP quarterfinals. Previously, if the Big Ten and SEC champions earned first-round byes, they slotted into the Rose and Sugar bowls, respectively. Now, the top three teams will choose their destinations in their rank order. If, for instance, Ohio State is seeded No. 1, it could pick the Peach Bowl for proximity or Pasadena for nostalgia.
Are both Elvis and Dan Mullen still alive? Scratch Dan off the short list. Yesterday, the ESPN talking heads were clucking about UNLV having a shot at the CFP .

They still can and I still like Mullen, especially if he can make Arnold a decent qb (wasn’t good at OU or Auburn) and there were signs of it last night. It’s the highest ranked G6 (doesn’t have to be a conference champ) so anything is still possible this early in the season.
Was wondering if UVA has a chance to be sort of like IU. Really nice 1 season and then going into the next everyone thinking last season was just a fluke one off. IU obviously proved everyone wrong.
UVA won 11 games last year after some struggles the first 3 years under Elliott. Can they follow it up with say a 9 win season. It’ll be interesting to see if last year was a one off or not.

Marshall wanted a similar buyout from the coach that a school would have to pay if they fired him. So they couldn’t come to an agreement before the season so the contract ran its course and he happened to win the conference in his last year. He already found a new job and they found a new coach before it all officially finished iirc.
you are right but Greg would have been right in those instances. I was shocked they didn't kick the FGs

The above story is of course botched, but the real story is interesting in its own right.
Last year the Northwestern State Demons of the FCS Southland Conference went 0-11, including two FBS games (Minnesota and Cincinnati) which they lost by a combined score of 136-0. So for 2026, they figured they'd buy a win. They scheduled their home opener against Louisiana Christian, an NAIA school with a total undergraduate enrollment of 763. Alas, the Christians overcame the Demons, 42-37.
Reportedly this is the first time that an NAIA school has ever beaten a full-scholarship NCAA D-1 school. Granted, for FCS, "full scholarship" is 63. But still, the magnitude of this upset is hard to grasp.
Northwestern State goes up against Louisiana Tech next week. I do not fancy their chances.
For a short Week 0 schedule, this game and William and Mary's bizarre defeat of Villanova provided some great storylines. College football still has interesting storylines each week.
