True. I've mentioned this before in other posts, but he's not a winner. His record clearly shows this, especially his record vs ranked teams. I'm not sure you'll find many power 5 coaches with a worse record that Matt's 2-25 (.074) career record vs ranked teams. Seriously, from what I can find, Maryland's HC is the only one who has a worse record (2-30). That's it. Of all the power 5 schools, we have the 2nd worst one (though really, is it that much of a difference?).

That's both sobering and frustrating. Maybe it's a good thing that Trev moved on, if this is the best he could do.

rhule's winning percentage thru his first 3 years in the B1G is exactly 1% better than Frost's thru 3 years

so far we've guaranteed him $80M+ for wins over akron, houston christian and the like

I've said it before, but coddling, pumping up, and allowing the Raiola's (X3) to virtually run the program was the downfall of the past couple years. Yes, that falls on the head man, but this year seemingly has a different feel. Less bluster, talk and hyperbole. It of course has to play out on the field in the next few months, but I haven't written off Rhule quite yet.

Yeah, a football team at the end of August is pretty much a finished product...there are about 100 layers of sheets to the bed and most of them are ******. The bed is made and we have to lay in it. He had no vision, plan, and willingness to retain coaches while firing coaches who could meet the vision. He has three ****** buddies still on payroll who directly contributed to the mess in year one. I am obviously no genius but two moves made his demise obvious...#1: his insistence that NU was a development U(speak for give me time)...when nil and transfer portal made efficient roster management a necessity. He then went a recruited a ton of projects who were fast but barely played football, none panned out. #2: He hired Satt, a coach who had never had an offense in the top 50% of college football. It was over within the first few months of his tenure, despite bringing in a really good defensive staff, which of course he ultimately ran out of town.

I like to get it out now, then relax during the games and watch you guys lose your minds. The bed has been made, the outcome of the season was determined with that **** nil class...5-6 wins...no impressive wins, barely beat Michigan State, Maryland, Rutgers. Get boat raced to end the year. No reason to be upset as it happens. To me the gross part is the coach salary and his nepotism and sctick. If he was a cool guy who cared about the kids, the team, the university...it would be easier to swallow. But having a transparent secular preacher, lizard lick his way to 100 million just makes me feel so gross.

I don't see him changing unless his failure is due moral weakness such as drug abuse or womanizing. A coach can clean that stuff up like Sark or Kiffin but just being bad can't be fixed. What made him average just doesn't work. Bottoming out a program for 2-3 years to develop freshman so you can spike a winning season in year four is now impossible.

Don’t worry, guys. Last year he turned his hat backwards. This year he’s going to cut the sleeves off his coaching polo and spit more.


If that doesn’t work, he’ll wear a giant junkyard chain around his neck.


We’re going to be SO physical for the first half, right up until halftime, when he gives a speech about how we need to respect them and completely kills the momentum.

Did it ever occur to you that’s because the monotonous drumbeat of recycled stupid actions and comments by our coach/administration continues? People tend to get tired of it and complain when that’s the case. Funny how reality works, huh?

Defensive coordinator was complaining because the personnel were ****. He was forced to basically defend the run with a dime package because we had no defensive lineman...the strategy was to basically get our dline pushed in, while having our safeties play back and relying solely on linebackers to aggressively attack gaps. This is why we hardly had any tackles for loss and gave up 5-7 ypc the whole season. It banked on teams being too impatient to continue to run, and falling back into throwing into our strength, which was a good secondary. There were five teams that ran it down our throats...Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, Penn State, Utah... those were the teams willing to forgo passing...the last three losses lead the DC to get pissed and demand more talent. Rhule said he was a negative whiner, and put all the blame on him for being a "negative" voice.

This isn't a new development for Rhule, he has spoken of the same thing since the end of the season. In his own way he refuses to take responsibility...it is always somebody else...the players don't choose to be leaders, or his coaches provide the wrong voice, are too negative. He might be right, he fired the guy and brought in somebody new. If it works out and the defense is great, then he gets some kudos.

So, I'm pretty sure I get blocked because of my username. But, there is a story behind that that I won't divulge now.

Coach Rhule has to show he has the ability to win. This is the year. 6 or 7 wins won't cut it, IMO. It sucks we have to pay him so much money over his remaining contract. But, at what point does it become detrimental to the Nebraska economy?

The only hope is we are running a defense again that at our DC is familiar with . In fairness to Butler he was trying to run a D that he was not familiar in calling. On top of that We didn’t have to DL to run a true 3-3-5 like before when we had Ty Rob and others like the year before. The thing about Butler also he is a pro coach and sometimes they don’t have patience to develop. They think it’s just the lack of talent and sometimes it’s talent that has to be coached up . In the NFl you get the finished product.

I just think the defensive roster was pretty strong under Frost. The 2021 defense was really good despite coaching, the 2022 defense was a strength despite having interim coaches installed mid-season. Tony did a good job with an established group of defensive players but inevitably we were going to need to recruit to replace these players. Rhule's recruiting has been downright ***...whether HS or PORTAL. Our dline should be stocked with good players he has bought or developed by year four...it isn't. Butler told him to his face that the talent sucks, Rhule took issue and fired him. Developing good dlineman takes 3 years, or you buy them. Rhule has done neither, and that is supposed to be his area of expertise.

All the hand wringing and worrying about bad coaching this or that but we need multiple draft picks on the dline to break into the top half of the conference...we just don't have it. This is one reason why the three man front is popular...in theory you can get away with 3-5 good dlineman instead of needing 6-8...dlineman are the most valuable resource in the sport, especially dtackle. We don't have a pipeline, nor regional talent in this area, and it is the main reason we have sucked for so long.

Well, whose fault was that? Dylan is certainly responsible, but what about the Husker head coach and his offensive assistants who allowed him to play that way? It goes back to there is no toughness coming from the team's leader, Rhule. Watch Rhule on the sidelines in crucial situations, when things are going south for his team, he's an emotional mess. Have we ever seen an example of him inspiring the team and helping them overcoming a bad situation? No! because he becomes anxious and uncertain. He has no poise in difficult situations.
