Rutgers first downs vs umass rushing yards ???
Umass lost to a division 2 team last year. This really should like a Howard/Norfolk State type of game. Rutgers doesn't cover only if Greg decides not to run it up against his friend.
Our defense hasn't made any decent moves afaik. We might even have a D coordinator worse than Robb Smith.
Also, our offense will probably regress this year. Not getting my hopes up for the upteenth million time with zero evidence of improvement.
Even if all of that actually turned out to be true - the 2019 team (last Ash team) dropped 48 points on UMass and only gave up 21. That UMass team actually won a game - beating Akron. This UMass team is expected to get shut out again. They suck.

I was always of the opinion that Soupy's schemes were underrated.
The QB they picked up from VTech is a big “get” for them by UMass standards, but he was still just Drones back up. Not a star player. They only scored 3 times twice in games last year and once wasn’t even an FBS team. It seems unlikely they do it against us even if we play our back ups the second half.
If this happens we may not win another game the entire season.

Chaminades happen to much better teams than RU. And it’s not predicting a loss, just a close final score. It’s an unlikely prediction, but not outlandish.

You just went against every person's view on the subject who has attended practice and put their thoughts on paper or in a video. That's quite a feat, per chance do you live under a rock or in a cave?

On paper we did poor in getting talent on Defense vs. what we lost on D in the Portal. However simple changes in schematics with the Defensive Staff will make a huge difference on the field.
I don't get that. We lost both edge guys from a defense that had virtually no pass rush. Both starting DTs are returning this season.
Both starting LBs are returning although they may be passed over for starting positions by two transfers. We have to replace the corners, but at least one of the transfers (Munn) looks to be an upgrade for sure. And one starting safety is returning, but it shouldn't be that big of a problem to find a replacement for the other.
In sum, the Rutgers defense last season was as bad as I've ever seen here. It seems absurd to complain about having to replace some of the guys on that unit. RU shouldn't have much trouble improving on what I saw last Fall from that bunch.
Also, one of the returning starting DTs who is returning is being replaced as a starter. Frankly, since botn were pushed around last season like they were on roller skates I wish they were BOTH not starting.
If the score isn’t something like this, brace! If it is something like 38-24…oh oh
Buy the line down to -9.5 and hope for no back door “bad beat!” UMass has an overhauled roster and if Rutgers is lucky enough to be up 3 possessions (17 or more) late, Schiano gets conservative.

I mean - they’ll be better than what they were by virtue of having a legit back up P4 QB level guy from a middle of the road ACC team. But they will be far worse than the weak power conference teams that Greg has managed to consistently beat in 2.0.

It would be more concerning if they scored less than 14 against Boston College than if they scored less than 63 against UMass.
Scoring 60+ needs to happen. I know many get their man-ties in a twist about running scores up but you need to have that foot to the throat mentality. RU does not have that.
UMass brought in some P4 transfers at key positions. Should a transfer QB from UofAlabama with a highly regarded NFL prospect receiver and a 1,000 yard rusher RB and decent OLine be able to win this game? Sure.“Overhauled roster”….. yeah, Indiana better watch out!!!!
A Chaminade-esque result implies a less than 0.5% chance (ie a 30-40 point spread). I’d say that’s the very definition of outlandish.
im actually somewhat surprised at -29.5. I would have figured closer to 35-36. It goes to show what the prevailing opinion of Rutgers football is especially given a lack of movement since the line opened.

Nah - this spread has nothing to do with the perception of Rutgers. Once the margins is over 3 scores it’s a crapshoot. UMass could keep their starters in and Greg won’t want to run up the score against his friend. As long as the game is over by halftime the final doesn’t matter. If we’re in an early dogfight like the MAC games last year that’s a big problem.
If the SIM game is even close to correct, get ready for the pitchforks.

A Dual threat QB keeps you in games if you’re at a talent disadvantage. Their O line and D-tackles aren’t all 240 lbs or anything.

When you had USC win by 16 and FSU win by 17 both 30 pt. spreads people tend to start betting the other way. We're the next P4 school on the betting schedule.
