I seem to remember shows like NBC's Sports World and ABC's Wide World of Sports featuring decathlon-type competitions between athletes across a variety of sports that would usually feature a few NFL players. Now, I guess a golf pro-am is about as risky as NFL players would get in the off-season. lolWell, they had gotten laughable.
My wife reminded me that the NFL teams used to play exhibitions in other sports after the season was over. She said some of the Redskins played another team that she can't remember in basketball at Winthrop when she was there in the late 80s. She remembered because she was a Redskins fan and Riggins participated. Now you can hardly get one outside in the offseason. I know contracts are strict about doing anything that might cause injury when a team is paying you millions.
