I think son 1 and I are going to the turkey day eagles at cowboys 11/26. We’re driving from LA and on the way back to downtown DE these games interest me
11/27 Texas at Texas a&m
11/27 Miss State at Ole Miss (is ole miss the famous tailgating?)
11/27 Nebraska at Iowa
of these 3 which would have the most fun game day?
And of course Saturday State at MD

I’ll be impressed if you can make it driving from any of those games to the PSU kickoff the next day. The Texass matchup is usually at night as well. Gun to my head I pick Texass vs aTm. Egg Bowl is a noon start. You have a better chance driving from Mississippi than Texass making it to College Park in time for PSU kickoff.

My order would be the same order you listed. Texas vs A&M more likely to have playoff implications for both teams (it did last year).
The Grove at Ole Miss could be fun but. Not really my vibe, so I put it second.
Iowa - meh.

Just an FYI about tailgating @ The Grove (on Ole Miss campus), it is incredibly crowded with very little space in between all the set ups, many of which are very large. Be glad you're not going in early September, with high heat/humidity, the atmosphere was stifling and I found it unenjoyable. It should be much better in November. One other tip, you have to get there early when they allow access to claim a spot if you plan on tailgating at The Grove. The stadium at Ole Miss isn't large but the crowd enjoy their GameDay. Lots of frat/sorority students all dressed up - common at all SEC venues. Personally, I'd opt for a game at Texas A&M, huge stadium, great atmosphere, raucous fans, Corp of Cadets march in and the Aggie Marching Band. College Station, TX is certainly not a garden spot. I've been to both locations. Oxford, MS (Ole Miss) is a much nicer college town.

Feel like the only answer here is The Egg Bowl. Football probably better at UT/ATM, but the 'scene' around Ole Miss on game day, and especially this game, will be worth whatever the on field product is. Game at Iowa? Pass - they're a terrible fan base and that game stands to be about as boring as those states are. UT/ATM but only if you sit on the ATM side and heckle these clowns:

I'd probably do Ole Miss noting they likely have the worst bro fans of the bunch.

LOL, thats a lot of wide open boring space, so might as well do something. I detest West Texas and East NM, before Tucumcari is just as bad.
If you have the time the Sandia Peak tram in Albuquerque is excellent. Try to get there and do it at sunset. 👍

Son1s first thought when I laid out the roadtrip was ALBUQUERQUE haha. I bet he knows what you’re saying:)
we’ll be on steelies with all weather 3 peak tires but I told him I want to stay south. We will go thru Nashville and tail of the dragon. I’m guessing he’ll put a bike on the roof, I’m gonna need some books
whats funny is we did this trip the opposite direction when he graduated in the same car, that a 2015 FWD wagen (which he wrecked lol)

Have been to A&M and Ole Miss....well Iowa too but I have nothing to offer on Iowa as that trip was not good.

While UT & A&M will have more on the line the Ole Miss/Miss. State Eggbowl game will still be a very spirited affair.
DaytonRickster set it up pretty well.

As previously mentioned, the Grove is a wall to wall packed out affair. It's a different environment for sure. My buddy & I made some prior connections & hooked up with a gang called the Lauderdale Club back in 2023. Frank & his crew throw out a come one, come all tailgate gathering for whoever chooses to stop by. Very advantageous to have some connections down there as it can be a maze getting around. Plus with those guys providing some food & drink it minimizes you having to drag a bunch of stuff around. We just chipped in some Cash to cover their hospitality. It was a September game & it WAS hot down there, but under the shade canopy of the grove & with everybody having fans (mechanical) going it worked out. Plus there was an air conditioned student center nearby that had TV's going & acted as an oasis if the hit got you down too much. They have a pregame player walk through the Grove to the stadium. We didn't witness it as the "path" was under construction. Game was against LSU & Stadium environment was pretty juiced up. It was a wild 55-48 affair.

At Texas A&M, Kyle Field is impressive. Again, we had some pregame connections there also. We didn't really tailgate. It was a 3:30 game. We spent Noon to nearly 1:30 watching Michigan get their butts kicked by Wisconsin back in 2019 in the bar before we met up with the people we knew. We partied with them Friday night so Saturday we kept it light. They showed us a good spot to watch the Corp of Cadet March In. That's kind of cool if you're into that kind of thing. Google it to check out for more info. We had some other tailgate invites from their message board but we stuck with the folks we knew. Stadium environment struggled as the game went on. Hot as hell & Jimbo Fisher's A&M team was sluggish all day long. Auburn beat them 28-20.
Can't go wrong either way IMO

Weather in late November and ticket availability are considerations.

1) Texas vs TAMU: Weather should be really nice but tickets will probably be very difficult / expensive to find.

2) Miss Stat @ Ole Miss: Weather should be tolerable; Oxford is a great town for football and if Miss State sucks like they usually do by late November, tickets should be readily available.

3) Nebby @ Iowa: Has a chance to be really cold and it's in Iowa City.....a place I'll never set foot in again. Who cares if tickets are available...it's in Iowa City, which is a good ways out of your path to DE.

Be very careful driving along I-40 between Albuquerque and the NM/TX state line. East of ABQ the speed limit is 75 mph but you start to encounter some decent hills and the NM state police know all of the good hiding spots just beyond the crest of the hills. I had the cruise control set at 84 as I was going up one particularly steep hill. The cruise control decides to accelerate to maintain 84 mph but overshoots as I near the crest. I get to the top of the hill and see the trooper, look down at the speedometer and exclaim "Oh Shift". My wife asks "What's Wrong" to which I say "I'm Busted". That 95 mph in a 75 mph ticket was a bit pricey. The state trooper shared that if I wanted to contest it I could do so in Tucumcari on Monday when the court was open, but this was on a Saturday afternoon. I was never so glad to get the hell out of NM.

It's not referred to as the "land of entrapment" for nothing. Cloudcroft is notorious for it around here.

we went to Iowa last year and town was very nice. Really cool district with bars and restaurants and the band comes out and plays right in the middle of it. Good restaurants and craft beer places. But its Iowa and you will be condemned to watching Iowa and the bug eaters play.......

Cloudcroft (which is very nice) just above Alamogordo where my first Air Force duty station is located, Holloman AFB. That was like a remote tour in the U.S., LOL. 65 miles to the west is Las Cruses, NM with nothing in between but White Sands Missle Range and 90.miles to the south is El Paso, TX, again nothing in between but White Sands Missile Range. Alamogordo is a small town but the folks were great.

I would like to get to an Ole Miss game. A coaching friend went a couple years ago and said it was fantastic.

Are the Miss State folks allowed to bring their cowbells to that game..if so, stay away.
Of course, that brings to mind the Saturday Night cowbell skit, which is an all-timer.

O next fall (if not in November)

Thinking of maybe going to a UVA game (tied into a campus visit); anyone ever been? Hear it's a bit stuffy on game day but no idea. The UVA grads I know vary a good bit so not sure what to expect. Was thinking UVA/VT this year but game is in Blacksburg.
