Glad someone said it. It truly is amazing.

edited: and then after we go 4-8 against the toughest SOS in the country they will complain.
Loser fanbase. But if we'd get strong leadership from the top, they'd fall in line.

Byrne, and then Stricklin later, knew the plan - schedule as easy as possible, period. 4 easy OOC, every year, play the P4 OOC in the bowl game. And that worked in the old era. However, as all of you know, we now find ourselves in a new era, where bowls don't matter and we're saddled with a 9-game SEC slate along with the P4 OOC mandate.

I used to care about such things and would spend a lot of time thinking about what our strategy should be, but I'm too old now, that's what Selmon gets paid for. I'm pretty sure a realistic starting point would be, what's the best way to contend for a playoff at least once every 5 years, since that's basically all that matters.

The one thing Mississippi State football has consistently done right, across several different athletic directors and head coaches, is manage non-conference scheduling. We consistently have 7 home games and schedule games we can win at least half the time for the P4 scheduling requirement. Honestly, for me the non-conference P4 home games have been some of the most interesting games we've played the last decade. Not a doormat, but also not another SEC powerhouse we're rarely going to beat.
My bad - I did forget about the Arizona schools so I am wrong in that we have had some good games in the past several years.
Guess I was mostly seeing what was on the schedule for the next 5-6 years and doesn’t appear to be too exciting.
We did have NC State scheduled as well in 2020 as a road game but Covid took care of that unfortunately.

I think we’ll pick up some interesting P4 games in The next few years. I mean heck any P4 games will be interesting & they’re mandated.

No to Indiana , Michigan , Oregon & Penn state. Too good. Rumored to be playing K Stste in 28-29 & just played them a few years ago & playing Minnesota in 26-27 so no there too. The rest look like good games.

I've spent time in 39 states. In a previous job I've driven every mile of state highway in west Virginia at least twice. Stayed in every town or city that has a hotel. WV is the worst state I've been to and it's not close. Some decent areas around new river gorge but the rest of the state is the cheeks. I'll never voluntarily return.
