I'm glad it wasn't. All money isn't good money.
That's a ridiculous take. They are going to get a **** ton of money for land that was otherwise pretty much worthless.

For better or worse, we didn't have an area remote enough and close enough to the water that could compete. Stennis would have been great for it, but Bay St. Louis, Diamondhead, and Waveland are probably too close to not be negatively impacted by the launch frequency they are planning. Also not sure how vertical their launches are and whether traffic from MSY over the gulf could interfere.

Why are you against this? Have these things been bad in other areas? Legit question. I’ve never heard of someone being against these type of things, of course they aren’t built very often.
That simply isn't a company I'd chose to do business with. Different people can come to different conclusions. I might be wrong 🤷‍♂️

Choosing not to do business with a company that is going to drop $100B into what is otherwise a remote, non-developable marshland is quite the conclusion. This could be a giant failure, and construction stop after doing $10B of work, and it would still be a big win for Louisiana (provided they backload their incentives, which they should be able to do b/c there's not a lot of competition for large tracks of remote, unpopulated land on the gulf). The likely bad scenario for them is that they end up with a lot of dirt and aggregate dumped on property that will likely be worthless until another company needs large tracts of remote land with water access badly enough that they can deal with the lack of workforce and bad soil, although there will at least be some preliminary work creating usable ground.

I watched an episode of Nova last night on the recent Artemis II mission.

They talked a bit about the expense of a lanch done by NASA and a SpaceX launch using the much cheaper Raptor engines they have developed.

The difference is pretty incredible. In round numbers a SpaceX launch is under $100 million, while a NASA launch is about $2 billion.

Draw your own conclusions…

Musk’s opinions and politics are one thing. But when he stays in his lane, there’s no question he’s pretty successful.

I can’t see how this is a bad thing. Just sucks that LSU NIL will likely benefit from the influx.

Genuine question, why wouldn't you do business with SpaceX? Is there a particular reason or is it just your disdain for Musk who happens to own it? If it's just Musk, that's your prerogative, but I haven't heard that much bad stuff about the actual company itself that I'd ever consider turning down a $100 billion project with that many jobs and good average salary, especially for a state like Louisiana or Mississippi. So just wondering if you know something about SpaceX itself that I don't know.

Yep, completely fair question. It's the company's leadership.

Also literally zero people are asking dorn where they should build spaceports, so this is all very hypothetical.

Oh, I forgot. Anything Musk does is terrible, right? How dare he make billions and now trillions of $$$.

Well, blindly following him because he supported Trump 2 years is kinda dumb too. He's known to view humans as risk factors, and he's not exactly a moral/ethical guy. His views on X are a little wacky too.

How long will it take for them to change mascots from tiger to this guy?

I'm guessing 2045.

Its interesting to me that incredibly expensive space infrastructure is built right where hurricanes traditionally wipe the 17 out of anything standing.
examples being Cape Canaveral in FL, South Padre in TX, this south central Louisiana location.

I understand launching over water means less blown up crap will hit land and hurt people. And I understand launching closer to the equator and eastward is better because the earth is spinning faster and that is apparently good.

Still, its interesting to see.

If anybody has money to invest in a large scale caisson company in south LA, now is the time. Cause that is some SHITTAY land they plan to build pads on which to blast rockets into space.

The guy has shown he is masterful in getting very hard things done, but building THAT THERE will truly be a monumental achievement.

If he were a Democrat donor and had said/written all the horrible things he has said over the last 24mo, and said/written all the terrible lies he has claimed over the last 24mo, and done all the irresponsible and self serving things he has done over the last 24mo...I wouldnt drool over every move he made like he was Elvis.
I would be equally disgusted with his comments, claims, and actions as I am right now.

I am not dorn, I understand that.

i don't see any way they'd be allowed to launch due east out of Louisiana since it would go over New Orleans, the landmass** east of there, then Mobile, Florida Gulf coast, etc. It'll have to be southeastern, which will still take advantage of the earth's rotation to some extent but not totally like you can out of KSC, and even then it's not equatorial like Guyana is. Launching southward for polar orbit, if that is intended, seems risky too since it goes over Mexico. I'd think the Louisiana location is more risky than the south Texas site they're using now.

The Lefty Lunatics griped that with his money, he could feed the homeless. They gave a number even.

He put out there that he would write the check immediately, but he had to be the one to oversee the distribution of funds. They said never mind.

That tells you right there, they wanted most of his check for themselves, not the homeless.

His whole space program is part of his plan to send the homeless to mars**

Anyway, as someone else mentioned above, this looks to be planned for ground that was previously undeveloped for good reason. I’m curious to see how quickly he pulls it off. He’s good at assembling the teams to get things done quickly.

Who the hell is blindly following Musk? And if anyone is, it might be because the dude is a genius businessman who has been as (or more) successful as anyone else in history and NOT because he supported Trump. Gosh I remember him going against and pissing off Trump a couple of times before, during, and after the DOGE project.

But I digress. Maybe some are Musk acolytes and I just haven't met them - truthfully, looking around the world today, if you're going to blindly follow a human instead of God, he's probably about as good a choice as any of us other dumb, sinful humans.
