Kyle Singler from Duke in bad shape

I couldn't stand Singler when he was at Duke but this is a brutal reminder that there are bigger things out there. I hope he can get the help he needs but this is an uphill battle. I wouldn't wish this on anyone.
This is about more than just addiction. I think the dude is sick with some pretty serious mental illness issues. I recall another vid not long ago where he looked frighteningly disconnected from reality, almost as if in a schizophrenic state.

Yeah, I think there's been 1 or 2 videos in the past. Definitely some mental health issues.
Oregon is one big drug cesspool at this time. Not sure if he is back in Oregon. I left Oregon about 12 years ago, but have a couple kids still living here and visit every summer for a couple months. Every corner has someone in similar state.
A good reminder. Singler needs God. We all do. Yes, some prayers for Kyle would be good. I've worked with people in the heroine recovery community for years. Drug addiction is a beast, as they say. It completely takes over every aspect of someone's life.Pray for him…

It is why all addiction recovery programs that are successful have to be based on faith. A relationship with Jesus Christ is the only way to truly find joy and peace.
The videos he posted a year or two ago looked more like a total psychotic break than drugs. Although it’s certainly possible he’s on drugs too. I hope he gets the help he needs.
Dual diagnosis patient , mental illness and addiction are the absolute hardest to treat. They often use drugs to try and self medicate thier mental health issues. I member the great sprinter Marion Jones was in a similar situation some years ago. Schizophrenia does not manifest itself until early to mid twenties sometimes. Hope he gets help.
Serious Heath Ledger joker vibes in that video. Won't be long before a headline announcing his death unless something significant happens in his life. Praying for help.
It could just be that he had some pain meds off a surgery and that opened the gateway to harder drugs, and then things like heroin or meth.
It's why ive always been afraid to ever do more than drink alcohol or occasionally weed. I know that even just one level higher of recreational drug use could turn into a total spiral. I was given some pain pills for my back and never took them because of that fear. You cant really love something you havent experienced, is my thought.

I hate Duke as much as the next guy, but K does not deserve any criticism for this. Guys like this are hard if not impossible to help. K and no one else had a magic wand here.
I thought this was a joke when I clicked on it. Terribly sad to see. I truly hope he gets things lined out before it’s too late.

If faith is a part of someone's recovery then that is fantastic - good for them.
But faith is not a requirement for recovery.
Yes, that's what I see. I'm in the medical field and this looks like a MH situation that has spiraled out of control with a drug element now. It sounds like family/friends have offered help but he has declined. Until he's ready to accept help, it won't matter how many people offer.

Had the same thought. Kid needs spiritual help along with medical help to ever kick that and recover. Prayers for him and those who are trying to help him.
There are so many other religions on our shared rock that a statement like this can come off as insular and ignorant of the diversity of faiths in this world. It always feels more like planting a flag than anything else.
What he needs is a medical detox and psych meds, not god.

It is obvious you have never looked at the 12 steps.
What Are the 12 Steps?
Each step is a platform for finding growth in recovery. From steps 1 through 12, members study and apply the guidelines outlined in the book Alcoholics Anonymous (also referred to as the Big Book) to release themselves from addiction and build a new life in sobriety. The Big Book lists the 12-Steps as:4
- We admitted we were powerless over alcohol—that our lives had become unmanageable.
- Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
- Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.
- Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
- Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
- Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.
- Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.
- Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.
- Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
- Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.
- Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.
- Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these Steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
Always good to see when someone praises the power of God, kudos to you for doing so even knowing some here will likely mock you for doing so. You don’t have to have God in your life to be a good person but all people (Good or Bad) do need God in their life.
I had seen that he was having some issues. I thought I had read he had some mental issues.
Yeah I believe that was the one I had watched. Almost like he was bi polar or schizophrenic.
Guessing this guy has had a ton of help offered until the point where it's obvious that there's nothing left to be done and trying to help just seems pointless. This definitely looks like a mental health + addiction issue, but who's to say which came first, either can proceed the other.
