QB Battle: Jeremy Hecklinski appears to have passed Hank Brown on the Depth Chart. QB was NOT a Transfer Portal Priority per KF on Dec 18

What for? You think they’re going to get a straight answer from the coaches regarding the QB situation before the official 2-deeps are released (which could still be ambiguous)?

I sure hope that keeping the 3rd and 4th string QBs happy doesn’t factor into who starts this year. There are zero QBs on this roster that were here in 2024, and there were zero QBs on that roster that were here in 2022; and there is a distinct possibility that the same will be true in 2028. It’s the same everywhere.
Usually there are leaks from non Coaches and info on who is starting to get more reps with the 1s which happens the last week or so to get ready for Week 1

Define “usually.” When was the last time we weren’t absolutely certain who the Iowa QB1 was by Aug 21st? 2014? 2008? 2001?

Didn’t they start camp on like the 5th? The first week and a half were probably pure install (going over playbook). They probably didn’t start looking at determining starters until this week.

We might get a tidbit on who is winning at this time next week. I suspect we won’t know what’s up until the press conference the Monday before the first game though.

I seem to recall CJ approached Kirk after the bowl game against Tennessee and said he would transfer if he didn’t start next year. Kirk declared him the starter like 3 days later. Maybe his dad made a public comment or something after the bowl game. I dont remember.
Now that’s interesting….

Like a steady stream of practice videos and People in Iowa City getting eyes on some practices late , I have not seen as much as last Year for sure

Just read bama named their starter today. One of few schools who had a competition going on. I’d be shocked if we hear anything next week though. Feel like until depth chart is released little over a week from now won’t get official word. Not sure when Kirk usually speaks to media or they post 2 deeps before first game.

I wouldn’t be shocked if we don’t actually know who it is until the QB runs on the field. The coaching staff has kept it a “secret” this long; why not let the fan base stir another 2 weeks?

I believe they usually have a press conference the Monday before every game. I am expecting an announcement then.

“Both guys are doing a great job in practice. We’re comfortable with both guys running the offense and giving us a good chance to win. At the end of the day, they’re both giving it 110%. They’re both team players who will answer the bell when called on. It’s gut-check time. We’re gonna see how the upcoming week goes and make some decisions later on. Then we’ll take it one game at a time. It’s a long season.”

reminds of a game in which the backup performed really well and won us the game but when asked a question about qb performance afterwards ferentz kept gushing about the starter who didn't even play. i forget the exact game and the involved qbs but this actually happened and amused me greatly.

Not so sure "thankfully" is a clear verdict, unless just talking about relief from how toxic the community had gotten.

Winning is still the objective, is it not?
Right. That offense was toxic and the butt of continuous jokes around college football. It provided zero hope of ever beating a high quality opponent, and regardless of how utterly dominant the defense had become, an embarrassing beatdown was assured.

Thank God it's been relegated to the dust bin of Iowa football lore.

What you've posted here is not necessarily accurate, and has nothing to do with my post.

And it's really unfortunate to see that last sentence from you, Jonesy. Very sad

Not sure if this is frowned upon or not but I listened to the Iowa Everywhere show this morning and Chris Hassel said that TOS reported Heck had a really bad scrimmage Saturday night (multiple interceptions including a pick-6)

Flip side did he say anything on how Brown looked as well?

He said since the tos report was pay walled he didn't want to go into too much detail but it was the opposite of what happened at kid's day. Heck really struggled and threw picks while Hank was "great".

It is very accurate, and I'm sorry to disappoint you. The truth is sometimes hard to accept, but always necessary.
The truth is, fan negativity reached an all-time high while Iowa was in the last season ('23) of KF's winningest stretch (pre vacated wins) at Iowa.

There is absolutely no justification for that.

And fans have seemed to want no part in accepting that truth and accountability

Well the court of opinion and media only has last year's Indiana game and this year's kid scrimmage to judge from 'with the lights on'. Thus, if Heck doesn't at least start game 1 there will be lots of grumbles in Kinnick sooner than later, especially if Brown is mediocre. Fair? Maybe not, but that's life -- perhaps Heck is just a gamer and to be fair, last Sat. was "1 of 20" practices mantra that Kirk said after kids day.

It seems the QBs are close which means neither is reliable which means why go into the season “naming” a starting qb? You’d just end up playing whiplash with both QBs. You say you have 2 QBs you like and the starter is on a week by week basis.

Ultimately if the Hawks ceiling is 7-8 wins anyway, go with the QB least likely to prevent wins by making mistakes. Ask Hank to hand it off 30 times, find a TE 6-7 times, and hope the punting is once again magical.

Should be interesting to hear what the BIG network has to say with their fall camp special at 5 tonight.
You don't have to wait, Dave Revsine from BTN already tweeted about it. And it's not good news.

So tired of being dogshit at the most important position in the sport. It's like being a fan of an F1 team that has a tremendous crew, manager, funding, etc. but the driver doesn't know how to ******* drive.

They should have went to the portal. Big mistake. I said this several times on here it doesn’t matter what weapons you have at WR and TE if you cannot get them the ball.

Another issue is that if those weapons aren't satisfied with how things are going, they'll fly the coop. DJV can go anywhere he wants and someone will pay him, RVZ is good enough to start at most B1G programs, and is Diaz is as good as advertised, he could probably go to an Oregon or USC if he wanted. We absolutely need production in the pass this year if we want to continue to improve our offense. We can't risk all these weapons leaving or we'll be back to square one.

I'm at the point where I say we offer the best QBs we can find a blank check, even if it means using over half of our NIL funds.

I do think Iowa is in a weird transition. Lester has certainly elevated the offense. And I think Iowa will pursue QBs who have abilities.

And they need to develop a QB who can be a mainstay 2-3 years.

But if you don’t have the guy you dont have the guy.
