Are these “college” athletes still owed money if found ineligible?

It's not pay for play. The sponsor can use the player's name, image or likeness whether they play or not.
What would make a player ineligible anymore?
Probably a wide range of contracts out there. I’d assume some are performance related and others are not. Insanity is in the eye of the beholder.
Yes, but if they aren't eligible or something and can't play, doesn't that diminish their image/ likeness marketability value? If they get injured thats one thing. But if you are ruled neligible you arent wearing the local teams jersey, and aren't affiliated. Which is the underlying assumption for using a players collegiate likeness. Seems insane that any business doling out NIL wouldn't have a clause to protect their interests. Using a more extreme example, what if a player does.a NIL promo for a local Ford dealership and then goes out and murders someone? I'd think there would have to be some legal clause(s) in the contract for such things.

Wild hair up the ncaa's rear end. Rules seemed to be applied arbitrarily half the time.
Think of it like a player being paid top dollar and then not performing well. Still gets his money.
Two different things. Pay for play doesn’t exist (as of now). There is absolutely no way though these big boosters and companies aren’t savvy enough to have language in the contracts that would keep a player from dropping out and just playing video games and not even representing the university.
Paying ineligible or injured players the remainder of their NIL is no more insane than paying some backup cornerback from a division 2 school $300k.

Save the money to buy better talent next year. If he is ineligible, he should not be paid. If he has not been paid already.
If one of the recent successful state lawsuits is granted a Stay upon appeal, all players named in that lawsuit become ineligible
