  • Established in 1870 and named for Civil War General William Sherman.
  • License plate prefix #56.
  • The population is ~2,925 (2025) and has been declining since its peak of 9,100 in 1930.
  • The county is approximately 572 square miles.
  • Loup City is the county seat and only city in the county.
  • Loup City is NOT in Loup County.
  • The Middle Loup River flows through the county.
  • The Clear Creek and Muddy Creek also flow through the county and merge into the Middle Loup River.

  • Polish Days is held the first weekend of June every year.
  • At one point, Jenners Park had amusement rides and a zoo. Today, it has a disc golf course, picnic shelters with grills, and a playground.

He resigned from Time magazine when Time began to censor his reports from Vietnam during the Vietnam War. He was critical of aspects of the war including the use of napalm on civilians, pacifying the Vietnamese people, corruption in South Vietnamese leadership, and more.
