Mallard Creek at Maury ( VA) 8/28

2019: Under Coach Dyrri McCain, the Commodores break an eight-decade title drought by winning the Class 5 state championship.
2021–2022: Maury reaches the state finals in consecutive seasons, losing a heartbreaker in 2021 and falling to Highland Springs in 2022.
2023–2025: The Commodores put together a historic three-peat, winning three consecutive Class 5 state titles (defeating Briar Woods 46-0 in 2024 and Highland Springs 25-7 in the 2025 final) to cement their status as a elite Virginia dynasty.

98-9 since 2018

Maury has had alot of success over the last 5 or 6 years but to the best of my knowledge they are 0-3 against North Carolina teams in that span, losing back to back seasons against New Bern and last year at Cardinal Gibbons. I hope Mallard Creek can make them 0-4. Note though that all 3 games were very close and decided by a TD or less. I just hope the MC offense will show up, they seem to have a hard time scoring but put up alot of points last week. MC beat Warwick, VA last year 3-0.

I can add from my time in the Navy there (83-95) with a 2 year period absent Maury was known more for basketball in that time and were well respected producing Cornel Parker who played at UVA and Joe Smith who played at Maryland and was the number 1 pick in the NBA draft in 95 if Im not mistaken. But all and all in football the region was loaded as a whole but none of the Norfolk schools seemed to stress football at all as a whole. Lake Taylor was decent thats about it. All the Norfolk schools seemed content to be so so in football. I never recall any of them making any splash at all, certainly nowhere near as good as current day Maury. More talent and better teams came from VA Beach, Chesapeake, occasionally Wilson from Portsmouth led by QB Aaron Sparrow, and the Peninsula schools Hampton, Bethel etc. Norfolk was really a non factor in High School football.

They had plenty of athletes when we played them and were a hard out. I'm sure that's still the case now. We were extremely fortunate to beat them the first time at home but also should've beaten them by much more the year after over in VA. Should be a good game.
