WEEK 1 gone too fast, time to drive on into WEEK 2!
Hibriten 35, South Caldwell 14
A good physical test for the Conference Favorites as they square up in a fight vs a county opponent. Expect a few more layers from the offense and a good tough stand at times for the defense. This is a good first half test, but anticipate the second half to be cruise control for the Panthers as they flex their weapons and ball control!
East Rutherford 21, Christ School 49
Another tough game stands in front of the Cavaliers, this is a tough opponent with tons of depth. But they say good strong games early, pay off later. So we shall see how this plays out for them. Goals for them is to stay healthy, clean up from week 1 mistakes and try to put positive things on film as they limp into week 3.
East Burke 28, Foard 7
East Burke lands in the win column as they get out of the gate early with good offensive start. Think that their size and speed will play in their favor over the Tigers. This is a good way to recover and rally after playing a stout West Iredell bunch. Expect them to get their running game and RPO game back in action this week to find their way to 1-1.
Chase 35, Albemarle 0
Just blow out the candle and save $8 on this one. Chase will light up the sky quick and early, scoring as much as they want too, maybe even break another record or two on their way to 2-0. Might even see more inside/outside zone work to just love on the running back some since the QB's arm might be fatigued with all of the throws.
Draughn 0, Freedom 42
Draughn has their toughest in county opponent. This game will be a tremendous test and I am not sure they are ready for it yet. Freedom comes in and treats it like a trap game, so expect them to be fired up and out the gates quicker than a whistle blow. Freedom to a running clock to yet again, get their entire roster in for early season PT. Draughn just needs to find a positive or two and stay healthy. Tough week 2.
RS Central 42, North Henderson 14
This one could be a good test, but the problem with option football is the clock always runs or I would think the Hilltoppers could score more in this one. North Hendo has always ran a good zone scheme with a mid passes, and I think their good running back is still there from last year. If so, then it will be a good run for RS defense to give them a chance to limit a decent running game. Still with all that said, Hilltoppers by as many as they want.
Patton 21, Avery County 28
This would be a fun one to go too. Especially if youve never been to a UFC fight and just wanted to see two teams beat the crap out of each other chasing an elusive win. This will be a big trench fight with occasional glimpses of football. Expect it to be a tug of war on the scoreboard, with a "whoever has the ball last wins" type of game. Excited to see this one play out as both teams seek a Win. Side note - this is the opening game for the Vikings, might be penalty-laden and conditioning issues for them since they have to travel off the mountain, so I have Patton with the advantage!
