MY PICKS
(11)EASTERN WAYNE @ GOLDSBORO
The Warriors of Eastern Wayne has high expectations for this season, and they'll kick it off on the road against county rival Goldsboro. I don't think the Cougars are ready for a challenge of this magnitude just yet. EW will roll in this one! EW 47 G 0
C.B. AYCOCK @ ROSEWOOD
Two programs that struggled last season to find wins, and both will be looking to start the season off fast. I think the Falcons will have the better air attack, while the Eagles will have a better running game. I don't think the Eagles will get enough stops to pull off the win. CBA 34 R 21
(21)HOBBTON @ (17)MIDWAY
Another county rivalry game to start the season. Both of these coaches are in their second season, and will be hoping for a big victory to start it off. The Raiders offense returns their key pieces, and looked good in the preseason. The Wildcats ground attack will need to be effective, and keep the Raiders offense on the sideline. I think the Raiders defense is much improved as well. H 6 M 44
SOUTHERN WAYNE @ (5)JAMES KENAN
My young Tigers
will take the field against a Saints team that'll be looking for an upset on the road. It may take some time for the Tigers
to get a rhythm going on offense, but i think the defense will keep the Saints offense frustrated long enough for the offense to get going. SW 0 JK 42
(23)PRINCETON @ (18)AYDEN-GRIFTON
The Bulldogs returns most of their starters on both sides of the ball. That includes a 2,000 yards rusher in the backfield. This may be a struggling year for the Chargers, and I think they'll get better as the season progresses. I don't think they will be able to stop the Bulldog's running game. P 51 AG 12
GAME OF THE WEEK
(13)WALLACE ROSE HILL BULLDOGS @ (6)EAST DUPLIN PANTHERS
A county rivalry game to start the season for the Bulldogs and Panthers. Both of these programs are no strangers to big games, and both are ready to see what this season holds. The new look Bulldogs will be out for revenge after the Panthers shut them out in the season opener last year. Both teams will be bringing in new backs in their backfields, and it will be interesting to see how well they'll do. I think the Bulldogs has the better defense right now, and they will have to set the tone early, and not let the Panthers offense get going. Look for the Panthers to try and mix it up on offense, but the Bulldogs will be too strong. WRH 27 ED 16
OTHER GAMES OF INTEREST
(11)ROCKY MOUNT @ (1)TARBORO
The defending 2A champs welcomes a 5A heavyweight Gryphons team from Rocky Mount. Last season's battle between these two saw the Vikings walk away with a 20-16 victory. The Gryphons finished the season with a 9-4 record, and are expecting to be a bit better. While the Vikings lost most of their championship core, but has a ton of young talent ready for their turn. I think the Vikings defense will come up with a big stop to pull off the victory. RM 13 T 17
(23)LAKEWOOD @ (20)CLINTON
A new ccoaching staff for the Dark Horses, and will be trying to get them back to being one of the most feared teams in the East. And they'll get started against a very talented Leopards
squad. Both of these teams have shown signs of being better than last season, in their preseason games. The Horses
has a lot of size, and two shifty qbs. The Dark Horses will need to get their running game going because their passing game isn't sharp at this point. If the Leopards
can stop the run and force the Horses to rely on their passing game, they'll have a good chance of getting the win. But I think the Horses
are too big and too fast for the Leopards
to keep up. L 14 C 38
SOUTHSIDE @ (14)NORTH DUPLIN
The Rebels are looking for a great start to a new season, after a disappointing end to their 10 win season last year. And they'll get started against a struggling Seahawks program that's been down for a few years. I believe that the Rebels will keep the ball on the ground and run away with a victory. S 6 ND 35
SOUTH CENTRAL (8)KINSTON
The defending Eastern 3a champions will hit the field Friday night looking to build on last season's success, and they'll have to do it with some new pieces. They lost much of their core guys, but they have talent and they have athletes. The Falcons looks a bit better than their 4-7 campaign last season. Even though they were 4-7 one of their wins came in a classic battle against the Vikings to open the season. The Falcons has won three straight in this rivalry, and will be looking for four. I think this will be another classic battle between these two, with the Falcons making it four straight over the Vikings. SC 31 K 28

The 2026 football season is finally here, and I'm excited to get this season started. This should be a very competitive season in the SVC, with Princeton returning a lot of their starters on both sides of the ball. Midway returns their core guys of their high power offense. The new look Bulldogs returns most of their big linemen, and has added a few pieces to their backfield. My Tigers
are young and hungry. We'll have 8 or 9 first time starters on both sides of the ball. I look for Rosewood and Goldsboro to be more competitive than last season. The SVC may be a four team race this season, and it should be some good battles for the top spot. Good luck to all the SVC teams this week. LET'S GOOOO TIGERS
