Man ole man cant believe its already here. Comes quicker and leaves quicker every year seems like. Easy calls on this one, somewhat.

Hibriten no problem find a better game to go to fellas

RSCentral unless McD has some suprises. Sure aint the McDowell of the 90s i used to see

ER, wow hard to call this one, coin flip- ER lol

Chase, ehh yeah

Bunker Hills only win maybe

West Iredell obvioulsy but good test and good hard game considering light schedule for young team and young QB

Hibriten @ East Wilkes
Hibriten in the second yr of Ferris State-style offense with tons of weapons (Lipford has been putting in the work and its been contagious for the skill guys, RB transfer from Freedom helps, and depth from the WC decision + already big guys returning up front); Defensive Speed and Coverage is the only ? early they have. Still think this is a good tune-up work and won't be as nearly as close as it was last season. This bunch BELIEVES after their run last season, and have truly locked in focusing on fundamentals this offseason. Coach Mackey has a stable full of options, now its time to unleash them for week 1. My 4A pick that is going to make a deep run this season.

Hibriten 42, East Wilkes 14

RS Central vs McDowell

RS Central will be married into a form of triple option w/ RPO capabilities. Like always, will the coaches get out of the way of the talent in the locker room. This may be one of their most explosive rosters in a while, especially with some transfers and JV talent. Again injury bug slowed this train down some last year and was a set back for them, but this year its all about the skill guys and Holley back signal calling from the pocket. Expect big explosive plays from J Smith and power running from the big JV RB from last year. Ground and pound, then over the top. Hilltoppers will cruise in their first test of the year.

RS Central 35, McDowell 13

East Rutherford vs Asheville

East Rutherford will be tested early on with a powerhouse team that didn't lose much at all, but gained a ton. Asheville is scary on paper and has been generating tons of eyes this preseason already. This non-conference gauntlet will test ER tremendously, with multiple D1/D2 prospects and overall team depth. Wingo takes over the reigns of an already potent fast paced offensive unit while also playing some in the defensive secondary. Can the young skill and depth at RB help pace the Cavs in this uphill battle week one. If the defensive side of the ball still has two-way kids then this will end up a running clock. Tough start to the '26 campaign for the Cavs.

Asheville 56, East Rutherford 7

Chase vs Polk County

- Chase will be another year vested in the Sosebee era offense and will have the tempo/passing/screen cycle in a full court press on the Wolverines. Polk will yet again have a tough nose group but the depth will show up as more than likely they will have a ton of two way guys with special team responsibilities. The defense at Chase loaded up the barrel with the add of DC Thompson, he more than anyone knows what to expect from the Polk bunch. I expect lots of offensive yards, more in the air than on the ground. Cupcakes are fun to eat, just not to pay $8 and watch.

Chase 35, Polk County 14

Draughn vs Bunker Hill

Draughn will still be young but experience on the field from last season will prevail to help them throughout the season. Again depth will be key as they have to keep guess fresh that are going both ways. Bunker Hill has a solid group and this preseason they put themselves in position to be challenged early by some quality scrimmages. This game will be about finding positives to build on as the Wildcats progress into week 2.

Bunker Hill 28, Draughn 7

East Burke @ West Iredell

East Burke will bring a new approach defensively with the HC/DC changeover as they will have offensive talent to score points. Physicality won't be an issue for a battle hardened Cavalier group as they return alot of offensive production with a year of experience under their belts, but West Iredell has the machine operating already as they have several D1 & D2 recruits that have been generating a ton of buzz. Athletically East Burke will be fighting a battle to match the speed and athleticism those in the green/gold will have. Expect it to be a slow starter but think West Iredell races out unless a turnover bug shows up or those heat cramps.

West Iredell 42, East Burke 21

Patton vs Freedom

Patton will be up and excited for this game and it will be a buzz until the ball is kicked off. Another highly experienced and talented Patriots team will be geared up for another strong run this year. Patton will have some very seasoned guys especially considering their youth grade-wise. Patton will show up and compete, for the entire game. The explosive nature of Freedom will turn this into a boat race.

Freedom 49, Patton 0

Hibriten @ East Wilkes
With the start of the new season, Hibriten played a hard-nosed East Wilkes team who gave all they had to try and spoil opening night for the Panthers. The offense at times look very impressive except for some of the penalties and early season wrinkles. The game was close early, but eventually the Western Piedmont favorites got out of the gate and cruised toward (1-0). Next week they will have the big physical opponent in South Caldwell, but the Panthers will utilize speed and athleticism to get in/out with a second win. This team is just finding a way to put 4 quarters together, everyone should be put on notice.

My prediction: Hibriten 42, East Wilkes 14
Actual: Hibriten 34, East Wilkes 16

RS Central vs McDowell

RS is as advertised - explosive/athletic/big and fun to watch in the option. The Hilltoppers made easy work on the neighbors from McDowell. The speed and physical play payed dividends for them as they had a good early season win with just a few things to iron out in practice as they look to prepare for North Henderson (who lost their 1st game of the year to their old HC new team ENKA 28-14). Could be a fun night in the palace as the Hilltoppers continue to explore all the fun in their scheme.

My prediction: RS Central 35, McDowell 13
Actual: RS Central 51, McDowell 12

East Rutherford vs Asheville

More touchdowns scored in this one than shown on the scoreboard, heard there were 6-7 more called back on the cougars that the scoreboard held at the end of the night. Kudos to the Cavaliers tho, with such a changeover through graduation and staff changes they fought hard vs an opponent sprinkled with D1 talent. This was an uphill battle from the start but the Cavs didn't quit and fought hard til the end. These games pay off later if the kids keep working. Next week doesn't get any easier as the Cavaliers bring Christ School into town, another tough test like having Chemistry and Calculus back to back.

My prediction: Asheville 56, East Rutherford 7
Actual: Asheville 53, East Rutherford 22

Chase vs Polk County

Records were broken and 2 days to finish this easy test for the Trojans. Air raid all over the field exploited the inexperience of the Wolverine defense. Again Polk County had a time to match anything that looked like speed or complex route trees which fell into Chase's hands. The passing game and screens were too much to cover as the Trojans raced to a win. Have no worries tho, this one might have been vanilla, but next weeks cupcake will feature a more flavorful icing like strawberry or funfetti, no test coming for Chase as they host Albemarle, loading early wins through limited competition.

My prediction: Chase 35, Polk County 14
Actual: Chase 45, Polk County 24

Draughn vs Bunker Hill

The depth showed, but the one thing that can't be discounted here is the teams fight. Coach Powell does a great job loving on his guys and they give all they have. Bunker Hill was a tough out the gate game but these wildcats will continue to improve as the season progresses. Doesn't get much better for Draughn tho, they have Freedom next week and this again will probably head towards another long scoreless night (Stinks for Freedom to be tied to in-county games when they need to get tested in their non-conference).

My prediction: Bunker Hill 28, Draughn 7
Actual: Bunker Hill 47, Draughn 0

East Burke @ West Iredell

West Iredell is as advertised, even with some early season things to clean up they will be a problem for everyone on their schedule. Explosive and athleticism got the best of the Cavaliers in this one. The physicality of the game was there, but they were "out-athleted" for most of it. East Burke will face off vs Foard next week and expect to jump into the win column.

My prediction: West Iredell 42, East Burke 21
Actual: West Iredell 43, East Burke 6

Patton vs Freedom

Weather saved this game from getting worse. Freedom is very talented and looked to get a lot of kids playing time. Was a tune up and 3rd scrimmage type that counted this week. Patton still needs to find depth and continue to develop as the season continues. Avery County is next week for them and I think they have a better chance to compete in this one!

My prediction: Freedom 49, Patton 0
Actual: Freedom 33, Patton 0
