This thread is much more optimistic than when a significant number of Debbie Downers are still stressing that we’re only up by 30 early on Friday night. You’ll get the people who don’t understand tournament scoring and the maximum point metric chewing their nails down to the quick.

It’s why Cael is always on the hot seat

The smartest thing to do if Levi is coming back is Defer Jayden James enrollment for 1 year. Put him in the NLWC in the meantime.

He starts classes on Monday, and so does his 5 year NCAA clock. We won't have any NCAA answers on Levi by Monday.

I checked UWW's site for Jayden's Japanese Finals opponent, Ariya Yoshida. The site says he is 19. He placed 9th in the '22 U17 Championships, 19th at the '23 U17 Championships, and placed second at 70kg at the '25 U20 Asian Championships, losing to Iran's Elahichouran 8-3. Elahichouran beat PJ Duke 2-2 at the '25 U20 Championships while en route to taking gold. Yoshida has definitely grown into the 74kg class as he wrestled 48kg [105.8 lbs.] in 2022. Like Jayden, Yoshida looks to be more of a technician than a brawler. He is tall for the weight. He has a nice underhook series, is fast, and conditioning does not look like it is an issue for him. He is good on top, and turned Wagin, who is very good, several times with this turn:

It has the potential to be a very entertaining Final. Let's go, James!

Honest question: which readers of PBP have complained about spoilers?

As I recall, the PBP-only threads on the old Rivals board was started not for fear of spoilers but for fear that PBPs get hard to find among voluminous discussion and banter, especially for readers day(s) after a tournament who no longer want to wade through a 25-page thread.

Again: which readers of PBP have complained about spoilers?

Maybe spoilers are an imaginary problem that does not exist for actual readers? 🧐

I am not fast. If people want to read pbp without spoilers, this is the easiest way as they can stay on that page. If they only want results, I'd suggest Basch as it's great for instantaneous results and multiple people have linked to it. The people who are watching live don't need pbp and can say what they want when they want with no worries about streaming lag making a spoiler plus it's much easier for me to join the discussion since it's not a separate thread. I missed a penalty point and someone answered what I missed for example.

It will take everyone a little while to get used to but most of the main free people seem to like it. When folk/Penn State rolls around I won't be doing pbp unless called upon in an emergency so it can be done anyway anyone wants it.

I just googled the time for the finals today and ai reported 5am est. I am sure this hasn't happened unless everybody slept in today.

What time are the finals set for today?

It all started because the guy doing the pbp (Coastal2) got upset that someone gave a spoiler before he could post his full pbp. So he did the little kid “I’m taking my ball and going home” routine.

seemed like Cortez was long and lanky and had the advantage (and will) from distance e.g. ankle picks, sweeps, low singles etc. the Russian appeared more compact and strong and had the advantage when he could force the action close where the length of Cortez disappeared or even worked against him. Russian reminded me a bit of Shane who at times appears vulnerable to shots from tall, long limbed opponents but negatives that when in close and is at his best when he fights his way inside and to his strengths.

I was a member of a message board for a different sport many years ago and they implemented a {spoiler} {/spoiler}tag. (The square brackets)

Anything posted inside that tag was greyed out to any user who chose to block them in their settings. If you did block spoilers you could still click on the greyed out area to reveal the hidden content.

I like the flow of things how they currently are and am not upset by spoilers. I would rather not have to jump back and forth to catch the pbp. Also, the posts surrounding the pbp with others watching and following has a certain feel to it.

I don't want a separate post for pbp only, but would prefer that over the pbp being at the beginning and not with the board/fan reactions. I think it would reduce activity if it's changed either way though. I doubt I would read through multiple threads all the time.

I do appreciate the pbp. I have access to the streams but don't always remember when there is an event. (especially in the summer).

I wonder if formatting the pbp with bold or a colored header would help those just interested in that skip by the content they aren't interested in.

Peretin Italy vs Bolsun Belarus 74kg repechage.

Peretin forcing body lock. Stalemate. Trying underhook shrug then single TD working high gut but no turns. 2-0. over under position Bolsun seems to be hoping for a late one move match. Pereten works underhook on ground for step out. Peretin drives step out 4-0. at the break

2nd
Perentin misses low single but gets TD on edge 6-0. Bolsun with a shot. Peretin spins behind a and runs the wing for the pin while up 10-0

Slow start. Robideau warned first. Robideau half single KGZ catches. Robideau goes on the clock. 1-0 Kgz. KGZ warned as is standard. 1-0 at a match that could almost have been Greco at the break

2nd

KGZ working underhook. Both took half shots. Robideau works a step out both on their knees in whizzer/underhook. 1-1 Robideau. KGZ goes on the clock. Robideau forces the step out 3-1. 45 seconds. Robideau working from space and defending. Lewan Robideau wins Bronze 3-1 and the US gets 10 medals

James in blue. James snags a low single to a quick TD 2-0 and a Duck for a TD. 4-0. Yoshida catchs a long James shot 2 and 2 and James steps out 6-3 James. James with whizzer on the edge gives up step out 6-4. Long James shot to nothing. James up 6-4 at the break.

2nd
James changing levels at space. James with a scramble that's scored TD Yoshida and reversal. 7-6 James but James is challenging. Challenge lost James up 7-7. 2 minutes left. Scramble TD but given 2 to Yoshida and 4 to James. 11-9 James Yoshida challenge. James had a leg in and crotch lock and both on feet and James took him to his back. Challenge lost 12-9 James. Yoshida lost a contact. 1:30 left. Yoshida front headlock to nothing. James at space playing defense. Gives up an easy shrug TD 12-11. Yoshida gets the last second exposure to win 13-12

Boyle vs Sanakoev Russia 97kg Gold

Boyle circling like he's done all tournament. Gives up center. Sanakoev much stockier. Boyle warned first. Sanakoev half shot Boyle working underhooks but Sanakoev has better head position. Boyle on the clock. Boyle double unders and forces the step out. 1-1 Boyle. Sanakoev warned. 1-1 Boyle at the break of a Greco match with no par terre.

2nd

Boyle shrugs an underhook on the edge for step out. 2-1. Boyle wrenches an underhook for a TD 4-1. Sanakoev is gassed. Boyle spin behind TD. 6-1 Sanakoev asking for cold spray but official denies. Boyle easy go behind 8-1. Boyle single to chest wrap stale mate. Boyle easy single go behind. 10-1. Boyle gives up a step out trying to spin beihnng. 10-2 Easy go behind 12-2 and Boyle wins gold.

Ross vs Nezhad Iran 125kg Gold

Iran with somersault to the center before the start. Ross working from space conceding center. Nezhad looks larger. Ross sweep single to nothing. Iran gets talking to twice. Ross warned first. Ross on the clock as no action by either. Ross with a deep single and scrambles earns Nezhad a step out point. 2-0 Iran. Iran explodes for a push out and pushes Ross off the mat. 3-0 Iran warned for that. 3-0 at the break Nezhad.

Ross isn't pushing the pace and is playing into Iran's limited short burst strategy

2nd

Ross double but when he backs out gives up a TD counter 5-0. Penalty point for Ross. 5-1. Ross double to nothing. 1:30 left. Ross reaching for doubles Ross looks gassed. Ross gets the ankles twice but Iran kicks out both times. Ross double to lace and slips on the lace as time expires. Nezhad wins 5-3

Mastny was the only medal that was really doubtful. Somehow Togoev couldn't afford to put anything in the gas tank which let Mastny work for Bronze. Lewan Robideau is always going to have one score matches so bronze wasn't as close as it looked, but overall 70kg didn't turn out to be a strong weight.
