Football Southern Piedmont 2A/3A/4A Conference

The Storm had a great start last night, picking up where they left off last season. Year 2 under Simmons is already showing — the team’s strength and toughness are clearly a step up from Game 1 last year. There’s still plenty to clean up in practice this week if they want to compete with the Shelbys, Burns, and Lincolntons of the conference, but they’re on pace to do so.


The other big observation was last night’s attendance. It was technically a “home game” for FV (held at SC, so they got the gate), but the number of spectators who came out on a muggy Thursday night was impressive. There was still a long line at the gate 10 minutes after kickoff and the stadium was packed. Football may be waning in some areas, but not in eastern Gaston County.
