Don't know, but the gophs have done this before.....Didn't Iowa State have a promotion similar to that some years ago?
I guess. Hopefully our program will never be in the position of being so desperate to need to have give away to put buts in the seats.....I don’t see a downside. Fans can get cheap tickets (and cheap pizza), Red Baron gets the pub, MN gets the ticket revenue via sponsor subsidy and fans in the stands.
The loss of self-respect?I don’t see a downside. Fans can get cheap tickets (and cheap pizza), Red Baron gets the pub, MN gets the ticket revenue via sponsor subsidy and fans in the stands.
Well, we are talking about the gophs after all. A team who chants "who hates Iowa, we hate Iowa" when they're playing other teams. When someones that deep in your sub conscience, you have issues.....The loss of self-respect?
Yes and No.Heard a couple nation guys on Fox Sports radio think Minnesota could be kind of decent this year.
why?
Minneapolis has the Big 4 Pro Sports. Attendance would be an issue for anybody in that environment.
Self respect was bargained away to some extent when they scheduled home games against Eastern Illinois and Akron. The loss of self-respect?
of all the big ten wrestling fans….. theirs are the biggest aholes….. I’ve gone to numerous BIG and National tournaments and interacted in bars with fans from all over…… they’re aholesYes and No.
1. While there's some overlap, college and NFL fan bases tend to be different.
2. There are more people within an hour of the Gophers' stadium than in the entire state of Iowa, and there are two P4 teams in Iowa.
3. The Gophers drew very well before they moved off-campus to Metrodump. That had a negative affect; they undercut an entire generation of fans and screwed themselves.
4. Minnesota sports fans in general are some of the most cynical I've ever come in contact with.
Yeah, MSP pro sports - talk about a tradition of championships.Heard a couple nation guys on Fox Sports radio think Minnesota could be kind of decent this year.

Is there many college teams that draw well that also compete against the big 4 sports?Yes and No.

Off the top of my head, the best program similarities to Minn in that regard are Stanford/Cal, UCLA, Ariz St, TCU, Houston, Northwestern, Pittsburgh, Boston College, Rutgers, Maryland, Georgia Tech. Those programs all have fan draw very closely related to team success. Is there many college teams that draw well that also compete against the big 4 sports?
you have to win a lot to draw a lot in those communities.
Most P4 schools are college towns, not major cities. You listed most of those that are. I'd throw in Colorado as well.Off the top of my head, the best program similarities to Minn in that regard are Stanford/Cal, UCLA, Ariz St, TCU, Houston, Northwestern, Pittsburgh, Boston College, Rutgers, Maryland, Georgia Tech. Washington is one of the few schools located in a “pro sports city” that consistently draws extremely well, with Michigan being perhaps considered just outside a metro area. USC and Miami are generally among top 25 in attendance, with the draw being very good against rivals and when the team is good.
Minnesota might have challenges, but the fans are there when they’re good (that just doesn’t happen very much). I doubt there are too many people agonizing over whether they want to get Gopher or Minnesota Wild season tickets…
Yep, MN fans (mainly at the college level) are generally bandwagon fans. I lived there many years and saw it first hand.Yes and No.

Yep, MN gopher fans have deep envy of Iowa’s general sports success over many of their programs, including football.of all the big ten wrestling fans….. theirs are the biggest aholes….. never recall regardless of where they play them having many fans show up
I do know they celebrate first downs like they’re touchdowns
and I’ve sat in their stadium while we’re kicking their *** with college age girls chirping at me asking if I’m a pig farmer like that’s some kind of insult and walked their sidewalks with random strangers saying “we hate Iowa” while we’re spending our money in their hotels bars and restaurants
fock the Rodents
Yeah, that was pretty much exactly the point/goal.Most P4 schools are college towns, not major cities. You listed most of those that are.
I don't disagree with any of this, especially the part about how big cities have a lot of people. While the ones you listed all have pro teams nearby, they also have a sh*tload more people. Boston, Miami, New York, Atlanta, Houston, Chicago, LA have plenty of people and money. There are only so many seats in an NFL stadium. If the college product is good, people will come.
As mentioned before, there are 3.7M people within an hours drive of the Gophers' stadium. That's more than the entire state of Iowa which manages to support 2 P4 programs. No excuses.
Sure. But still. F**k 'em.Yeah, that was pretty much exactly the point/goal.
I don't disagree with any of this, especially the part about how big cities have a lot of people.
But it's obvious from the discussion that most major colleges in "pro cities" have a hard time consistently filling their stadiums with 50K+ fans every Saturday, despite the large population to draw from; it's not just a Minnesota problem.
Yeah. Modern Totinos equivalentNot worth it. Red Baron pizza is terrible.
Not new though. They've done this before other seasons as well under Fleck.....Someone has sunk to an absolute new low … next up a free car for Gopher fans
