A movie people loved that you thought was terrible.

C'mon now. The sister in law was hilarious. "I'd like to just roll you up into a little ball and stick you in my ******." LOL ...
And honestly, what really made the movie was the setup for the end. The whole time you're laughing every time Farrell insists that he's a great singer. And he ends up pretty good, with Reilly throwing in "boats and ho's" in the open spaces.

It sort of reminds me, in an inverse way, of when I saw Steve Martin a few years back with Steep Canyon Rangers. As he was tuning his banjo, he started this long story about people asking him how he decided to perform professionally in front of crowds. As he tunes, he says he decided he should go see how the real pros do it, so he got tickets to see Eric Clapton. [tune, tune].... "But I have to tell you, he just wasn't that funny." But that great sense of surprise.

True Conversation:
My ex, now a famous rectal and colon surgeon, yes she spoke about this topic during our dates also, said, "Is that guy, reta rded?" at the end of Forrest Gump. I was, for a time, speechless. This, needless to say, ended our relationship. And yes, she used the R word.

That is 23 minutes out of 169 minutes of total runtime. The Oscar is for best picture, not best scene.
We can't all be Kelly's Heroes.

That said, I do think there was far more to it than the opening scene. Like, say, the excruciatingly personal hand-to-hand killing near the end.

I'm glad she broke up with you.

I saw the first showing when it came to town and at the and of the movie the the entire theatre was stunned silent. It was incredible. Now if I had gone the next day after hearing the ending and whatnot, it would not have been as good. I loved it. Freaked me out, man.

Well, I really like almost every movie mentioned in this thread.

I hate the Avatar movies. I also strongly dislike pretty much all of the popular Marvel movies.
The first two Avatar movies were ok. This last one was a waste of resources.

Marvel movies, for the most part, are pretty good. Not everything needs to be Citizen Kane.

Shakespear in Love. Won the Oscar for best picture, beating out Saving Private Ryan. Gag...
Horrible movie, but it got me a lot of action in college.
I would invite girls from the woman's floor to come watch it and eat fresh popped popcorn - I brought a popper to the dorms.

Was she at least a good lay? Because between not understanding that Forrest was different and using that word on a date, she seems like the perfect person to have her head up other people's butts.

Another vote for Avatar. It's a sh*ttier version of Dances with Wolves... In space.

Goonies was dumb but admittedly I haven't seen it in 20 years.

Anything Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings.

I tried watching the first of the Planet of the Apes reboot and just could not get into it. Don’t see the allure of the franchise. It shocks me they have made so many of them and they have done so well - maybe I should give it another chance?

Also, WTF is wrong with some of you? I knew many of you were tasteless slobs, but some of these takes…I’ve never used so many shocked and angry reactions in a thread.

Goonies? That is peak GenX lived experience (doing crazy sh*t with no adult supervision) and one of the all time great movies. Godfather? Brilliant. John Wick? The babayaga is the best action anti-hero of all time.
