Well, spending too much time on academics shouldn't...

be a problem for Sellers this year. He has NO classes and an internship at a driving range this semester.

It is going to be hard to make fun of the academics at any other school this season.

Seriously? Did he graduate already?

I don't actually have a problem with it. Mainly b/c I know one of his coaches from middle school. This guy is the most orange Clemson fan you'll ever meet. However, he thinks extremely highly of Lanorris and said he was always a studious and diligent student, so he takes his current situation as being consistent with his previous academic track record.

But, yes, if this was a player from UGA, I would think it was absurd.

I mean to all your points here, he's a sport and entertainment management major and he's been around Columbia for at least 10 semesters. One of the last requirement to graduate is an internship in which you cannot have another class. It just happens to fall now as his very last semester. Mine looked very similar. The dude is simply finishing his degree, so let's not crap on parade.

I had to take a Capstone class to graduate.

Can you imagine the outrage if a Clemson player was in the same position?

I'm impressed that he is graduating. I've always heard he was a good student.

Only thing I was surprised about is that it's a driving range. I'd think a driving range would be quite limited in the experience it would give an intern. A golf club- especially one with a restaurant, pub, large landscaping shop, and pro shop would be an excellent internship opportunity.

having no classes while doing an internship in college is quite common.

I doubt LaNorris is planning on working at any sort of golf facility after college.

Unlikely but the point of an internship is to expose an individual to a type of business and all that goes with it. Sellers apparently is very much into golf and it sounds like he's interested in that type of business. Maybe he could even invest in golf club business in the future.

That's why I said a driving range is so limited given most all don't have the range of a golf club.

A golf club though would expose an intern to the food business, the insurance business, employer/employee relations, labor law, marketing, community service work, payroll and accounting work, landscaping work and observing how managers supervise crews and equipment. I think a golf club would be a great internship for an athlete.

I've only repeated what even one of the "insiders" on this very board said yesterday regarding Sellers.

I notice you aren't being specific.
Sellers is as interested in getting a job at any sort of golf club as I am getting season tickets for a WNBA team. He is making 7 figures playing college football and will probably get a nice payout to try and play in the NFL (I don't think he's going to make it long in the NFL).

Your post about how much more experience he could get working at a golf club as opposed to a driving range shows me you really don't know much about how the world works.

Who cares? He's fulfilling the requirements the university set for his degree. Nobody's pretending that Sports & Entertainment management is rocket science, but it's a perfectly legitimate degree that many regular students also receive.

Another example of not reading what I wrote - and responding to something I didn't write

I didn't say anything about "getting a job at any sort of golf club" - I only said it was unlikely.

I said he might be interested in investing in such a business. He might even desire to own one or be an investor in golf club ownership companies in the future.

Having an internship at an actual golf club as a college student would obviously be something that someone interested in such a thing might find valuable. This is common sense.

Your post about how much more experience he could get working at a golf club as opposed to a driving range shows me you really don't know much about how the world works.

you are one ignorant soul if you think the business management of a driving range is the same thing as the business management of an actual golf club.

of course.

Some of these nuts here would argue with a tree stump- probably because of a common intelligence level.

his degree requires it - he takes it.

The only thing I said about it was i was a bit surprised that it was at a driving range instead of a golf club as a driving range's scope of business is much more limited than a golf club- which is also obvious.

no one expects him to "work" at a golf course or driving range in the future unless he has a desire to be around golf all the time. With his money, he's much more likely to be in a course ownership position one day- where an internship with any golf entity would be somewhat beneficial if he has to have an internship to graduate (which he does).

The interesting thing is- on social media this summer-a man from Ohio posted that he ran into Sellers on a course in Myrtle Beach and Sellers agreed to take a picture with him. The man said he (Sellers) was apparently working on his golf game and spending time at the course as he loved the sport and was trying to learn. The man posted that Sellers also agreed to play a round with him as he needed one more person.

Ultimately I'm glad he's only taking one internship at a driving range. Hopefully it's not a very time consuming internship and he can focus on football his last semester while still earning his degree.

Jeez, first you killed all the "irony-meters", now youre just desecrating their corpses with this stuff.

And trust me, just about everyone on the board now realizes that arguing with you is VERY much like arguing with a tree stump. You picked your name well for this board.
