Stumbled on this and you can watch part 1 and 2 on YouTube Tube (first half ends 0-0 though). 1989 second round of the 6A playoffs. Great analysis by the guy filming and if it 1989 I'm guessing a shoulder held camcorder! But look how slow the game moved and the offenses, it's equal to a grade school game and this game featured the Times POY Alex Rodriguez who went on to Ohio State. Enjoy fellow Old Timers.

1st round great game. What a playoff. Both Lane & CVS lost winnable quarterfinal games. Sandburg lost by 1 to ESL. Had they won then beat Conant we would have had a Sica State Championship Thornton vs Sandburg.

@McCaravan you could change the name of the thread into a collection of old games.

1995 playoff game between Rice and Romeoville

I

This is the Romeoville I feel comfortable hating 😂

The VIlle used to be a 6A power back in the day! I remember some really good teams in the mid and late 80's.

They had ESL beat but I believe the QB slipped & fell on the 2 point convo or else they would have beat them in 1983. Great year in 95 but blown out in semis

That 89 game btw Lane and Gordon was awesome; thanks for sharing.

Hey Carmel guys, someone must have footage of the 89 SR-MC game, as it was incorporated into this really cool highlight reel.

You guys have kicked our asses 99% of the time in my lifetime (48 years old). The only two times I felt great after a MC-SR game was in 89 and the playoff game in 94. I was a junior in 94, but the 89 game was probably my favorite, because of what happened at Claremont in 88, and because of the crowd size at Gately that night; I could barely see standing near the endzone.

There is countless videos of MC whooping SR's ***. Do us a favor and give us the video of the 89 game, lol!!

It's true that Rita was magnificent in that final drive, coming from behind to beat the MC, 14-7. At Gately, no less, although Gately never felt like a home field. Not like 63rd & Claremont. In any case, Rita, which had the top-ranked team in the area, was upset by CVS in the playoffs, while the Caravan won its third in all and second in a row. In '88, in a semifinal game at Rita, another donnybrook occurred between these two brotherly rivals. MC won 18-7, but I'd always root for Rita over Rice.

It seems to me that in the 1980s, the public league used to have much stronger teams back then. For you old timers(I apologize I’m 44 and didn’t start following high school football until maybe 91), was that the case? You had Lane, CVS, Robeson, Simeon, Julian all giving the Catholic league teams pretty good games.

Oliver Gibson, may he RIP, was a one man wrecking crew in 1989! Great career at ND, respectable NFL career with Pittsburgh and Cincinnati. Believe he was a starter in the 96 Superbowl vs Dallas when O'Donnell took that payoff to throw the two worst INTs ever....or at least I assumed a payoff!

I've offered up to decent 3 figures for that game and we lost! 😂. Nothing. Just love seeing that crowd!

You are correct! CVS had great Football and Basketball. Greg Wilkins, Reese Thomas, Kenna Turner, obviously Juwan Howard in Hoops, knocked off #1 St. Rita in 1989....Robeson was the first CPS school to make State led by former Bear Mickey Pruitt. Julian had great teams and a great Coach in JW Smith. Torrance Garfield was First Team All State at QB.....Lane obviously with Alex Rodriguez....Morgan Park had strong teams led by Former Michigan star and 1st round pick of the Chiefs Tre Jenkins (kind of a NFL bust though). Simeon was a thorn in MC's side in the early 90's....now it's really Simeon and MP and maybe Kenwood.....Lane Tech is decent in most sports. Julian and CVS fell far off the radar in most sports

This guy teased us with the first 11 minutes and billed it as Alstott vs Rice and then never posted the rest.....needed to show the last 11 minutes.....even though MC lost after leading 24-6 with 6 minutes left in the game 🤮

Add Bogan to that list. They were no pushover. Each year they’d lose to St.Laurence in round 1. I know in the 90’s Hubbard did well vs CCL
