On Monday, Florida Director of Emergency Management Kevin Guthrie accepted a spot as Lt Gov on the campaign ticket of our current Lt Gov Jay Collins, who was in the Republican primary running to be our next Governor. Collins was waaaaaaaay behind in the polls, and finished a distant second the next day. Guthrie apparently didn't realize that accepting the spot on the ticket meant he'd have to resign from his job as Director of Emergency Management, effective on the day of the election.

So this clown was on the ticket for a hair over 24 hours, and didn't realize it would cost him his job as director of a major state department (and the salary & perks that come with it). He is a disaster, indeed.

"didn't realize it would cost him his job" - says right there he quit his job, didn't "cost" him. Agree, stupid move, but didn't read anything that said he asked for it back the next day

The message he sent out to his staff made it quite clear that he did not realize he'd be out of a job as a result of running. There's some question as to whether he had to resign as a result of running or whether he was pushed out the door by desantis because he decided to be on the ticket.

Guthrie’s farewell message to Division of Emergency Management (DEM) staff, sent by group text Wednesday morning and obtained by Florida Politics, tells a different story.

“I knew my choice was a gamble and even a long shot,” Guthrie wrote. “But I never imagined that I would lose my job for being added.”

Guthrie wrote that the past 36 hours had not gone as he thought they would — “Not from a standpoint of the election but from the point of consequences.”
