But would Morris be a step up from NV?
Is Morris better than NV? In general yes and would a one off game be terrible? No. I got the feeling that this was going in more towards a deeper match say like in the same conference etc. That's the big issue I have with the original suggestion.

SouthWest Prairie week 1 Games
East

Stagg
@ Romeoville - Last year Romeoville (4-5) eeked out a 1 point win against an 0-9 Stagg. Over the offseason the Spartans suffered substantial losses due to transfer. I am taking Stagg to exact a measure of revenge and win by at least 1 score.

Aurora (East) @ Plainfield C - PC was 2-7 last season with wins over teams that were a combined 1-17. East Aurora on the other hand was 2-7 with wins over teams who were a combined 0-18 with one of the wins being a forfeit. While PC played the tougher schedule, neither school was all that competitive. I'll give the nod to Plainfield for putting up similar numbers against a tougher schedule

Plainfield S @ Pekin - Pekin (5-5) won this matchup 28-7 last season with PS (4-5). Pekin plays such a wide range of opponents it's hard to get a read. PS has a highly regarded QB whose name slips me, but he is supposed to be the Truth. PS needed this win last season and didn't get it. I'll take Pekin

Argo @ Plainfield E - Plainfield E seems to be on an upswing with their new coach and RB Croom coming off of a 6A playoff appearance and loss to ESL, even being poached by MC for their QB talent. Argo is Argo, but at least they still have a team. PE put up 55 points in last year's tilt. I expect more of the same. PE for the win.

Joliet C @ Thornridge - T'ridge (0-9) has fallen on hard times with their enrollment as they are now in the 800's and took some lumps last season. However, they were competitive in 3 games with Joliet C (1-8) being one of them as the Steelmen escaped with a 1 point win. Joliet C's struggles have been well documented and they are still trying to find some footing. With an enormous advantage in size I give the slight edge to Joliet as they try to increase their win total from a year ago, to do so this is a must win.

West

Homewood-Flossmoor @ Bolingbrook - Last season HF (6-5) took this matchup with a couple late TDs aided by numerous special teams blunders and untimely turnovers, The Brook however returned to form amassing over 500 yards of offense in the loss. The Vikings return a ton of talent despite a major transfer and are in year two of Coach McAllister who made Chicago Phillips into a powerhouse championship program. The Brook also returns 17-18 starters from last season along with at least 1 major transfer in. The school that had Alec Anderson as an AD and Tony Smith as girls hoops coach will win.

The Nook @ St. Charles N - Last year The Nook (6-4) said SCN (10-2) was who they thought they were, but let the North Stars off the hook in a 1 point loss to the 7A powerhouse. I haven't really seen much about either this summer, but both programs are consistent. I'll give the edge to a revenge minded The Nook. Also The Nook may have the best uniforms in the conference, I saw some snazzy get ups in their media day pics.

Neuqua Valley @ Oswego - A couple years prior to COVID NV (3-6) went toe to toe with ESL in South Naperville in a 2 point loss. Eight years later NV is attempting to find their footing and stabalize. Oswego is at the other end of the spectrum coming off of an 8A championship game appearance and returning 15 starters; the Panthers have championship goals. Those goals will not be inconvenienced by NV. Oswego runs away with this one.

Lake Park @ Plainfield N - Both teams had rough seasons last year with PN going 2-7 and LP 3-6. PN battled injuries early last season to become competitive in conference except for a shellacking by Oswego in a meaningless week 9 game. I look for PN to be improved with the addition of kids from their lower levels. Not sure what Lake Park has. I've been high on PN all offseason, no reason to stop now.

Non-conference crossover

Joliet W @ Oswego E - Last season was supposed to be JW's (4-5) time to dominate the East, but they ended up dropping a conference game and missing out on the playoffs due to scheduling 2 non-conference games against the West division in addition to the 2 mandatory crossovers. Oswego E won the matchup 41-0 last season, but lost a lot to graduation. Joliet W has some quality returning and should be able to narrow the gap some in this week 1 game, but Oswego E continues the West's domination.
