Yup, saw that on his interview…Direct quote from Phil Parker, who’s not usually one to talk anything up.

Maybe he was referring to a more dynamic offense than he's used to running up against.was he talking about the defense or the hawkeyes as a whole?
He was talking about the entire team as a whole.was he talking about the defense or the hawkeyes as a whole?

strongly agree. I was just going to post that the defensive line, especially the tackles, could very well be the linchpin to the whole season being mediocre/poor or excellent.Biggest question mark is how the DLine holds together. Worried about depth there.
I was watching highlights of Thomas Meyer playing basketball, freak athlete gorilla dunks. 12 personnel with DJV and Meyer, plus Diaz and RVZ and Phillips gashing runs could be a really explosive offense If the O line meshes well. just need slightly above average play from Heck to put up a lot of points this year.I had something too but alas it was just side effects from too much taco bell , That said Phil probably is seeing an offense that may take some of the pressure off His defense , If Iowa gets good QB play this Team could score a ton of points with the RB/TE/WR rooms all deep and improved .

we could certainly have one of the best iowa offenses in years and still finish 8-4 or even worse if defense and ST regress. but if we really have one of the best overall iowa teams it would likely be repeated coaching blunders that lead to 8-4 and i would hate to see that happen. We could end up with one of the best teams we've had in recent years and still finish the season 8-4.
For those among us who put the ultimate measure of the team's success on the win-loss record, it could be a bit disappointing.
We were 8-4 last year (9-4 with the bowl game win) and that was as fun a season as I've had in a long time. It's honestly better than a 10-3 season where we get outscored like 99-0 by the 3 best teams we play.We could end up with one of the best teams we've had in recent years and still finish the season 8-4.

Love how you guys continue to prove me rightWe were 8-4 last year (9-4 with the bowl game win) and that was as fun a season as I've had in a long time. It's honestly better than a 10-3 season where we get outscored like 99-0 by the 3 best teams we play.
2009 team says HELLOwe could certainly have one of the best iowa offenses in years and still finish 8-4 or even worse if defense and ST regress. but if we really have one of the best overall iowa teams it would likely be repeated coaching blunders that lead to 8-4 and i would hate to see that happen.
on a related note, the last time iowa had a relatively prolific offense was in 2006 and the defense let us down tremendously. 2002 was probably the only time that offense and defense were both top tier. so if the defense remains stellar (and offense is one of our best) 8-4 imo is unlikely regardless of schedule.
defense was top 10 but offense was only top 100 (coming in at 89.)2009 team says HELLO
Yeah. That offense was pretty bad.defense was top 10 but offense was only top 100 (coming in at 89.)
i could certainly be wrong but i believe 2002 is the only time both o and d were top tier.
Say what you will about the offense, and I do believe they will be vastly improved DEFENSE wins championships. Phil be asst coach of the year if this years edition finishes in the top 25.We will make the playoffs if we can put a top 25 rush defense together…
A win is a win!We were 8-4 last year (9-4 with the bowl game win) and that was as fun a season as I've had in a long time. It's honestly better than a 10-3 season where we get outscored like 99-0 by the 3 best teams we play.
7 out of 8 isn't badA win is a win!
A loss is a loss!
Offense is for losers!
Punting is winning!
Run. The. Ball!
Brian was done wrong!
0-0!
Any more questions?!

I've already explained this.What'd I miss?![]()
Or a 6-4 season where they were outscored 92-0 by the only three decent teams they playedWe were 8-4 last year (9-4 with the bowl game win) and that was as fun a season as I've had in a long time. It's honestly better than a 10-3 season where we get outscored like 99-0 by the 3 best teams we play.
I am wondering how he schemes with the linebackers to cover deficiencies with DTSay what you will about the offense, and I do believe they will be vastly improved DEFENSE wins championships. Phil be asst coach of the year if this years edition finishes in the top 25.
2008: 33rd PPG, 5th Points Allowed. So close to a great season losing 4 games by a total of 12 points.defense was top 10 but offense was only top 100 (coming in at 89.)
i could certainly be wrong but i believe 2002 is the only time both o and d were top tier.
2008 record and close losses could be a twin of 20252008: 33rd PPG, 5th Points Allowed. So close to a great season losing 4 games by a total of 12 points.
It was a puzzling offense no doubt, not putting away UNI and Ark St. and maybe with Shonn Greene gone the running game needed time to gel. The hawks also played some really really good Big 10 teams that year and 3 of those were on the road at psu, wisky and msu where you are not going to score a lot and move the ball a whole bunch. But a bunch of points against the clowns and Indy showed some very good offense. Plus Stanzi had two scores on first two possessions in that crazy loss to jNW that year so if he doesnt get hurt the hawks might score 40 in that game. Yet the offense was very good at OSU and against Georgia Tech.defense was top 10 but offense was only top 100 (coming in at 89.)
i could certainly be wrong but i believe 2002 is the only time both o and d were top tier.
As in, "I've already explained this", is one of my sayings that you've missed
You have a point but I am absolutely not signing up for losing in heartbreaking fashion in multiple big games like that again. Last season was entertaining but ultimately brutal. We were 8-4 last year (9-4 with the bowl game win) and that was as fun a season as I've had in a long time. It's honestly better than a 10-3 season where we get outscored like 99-0 by the 3 best teams we play.
