There will be a bandaid approach and action to keep the streak alive. Its about all that's left to cheer hard for, but long time since its been earned.
Yep. Selling open seats to a corporation for pennies on the dollar who will then donate them and write them off while others will continue to pay manageable season ticket fees with astronomical mandatory donations for the same product.

I like how the article says it's all about tradition.
Well a great, smart, physical and disciplined team used to be the tradition too.. Nobody cares about that anymore.

Let the streak die on Rhule's watch.
The streak was dead long ago. But the tradition collation wouldn’t let it end on the Golden boy’s watch.

If AD allows the sell-out streak to end his time at NU is officially over. I assume he will beg/borrow/and steal to get it done...but everybody knows what is going on and like OSU in 2021, people just won't show up in the stadium and empty seats don't lie.

Not a single game is sold out yet, these numbers are from the AD itself, they say official capacity for tickets is 82,000.
Fans packed in like a can of mushrooms, mediocre product at best, new players year in and year out, ridiculous ticket prices, horrible scheduling: Why would anyone want to go to these games?

Saw this coming miles away. Many more open seats in the last few years. Many of the season. Ticket holders sitting near me- are now gone- started going in 1970. Gave the tickets up this year- not going through all the hurdles and terrible amenities etc for poorly coached football. I’m not the only one. South end zone fans treated like homely red headed step children.

And with all this, the AD wants to alienate and crap on generational season ticket holders. What an absolute IDIOT.

Part of me thinks he wants to sellout streak to end. I don't think he actually likes the tradition of Husker football.

There are too many seats. However, the sellout streak even with propping it up is impressive.

The amount of people Nebraska puts into the seats on consistent basis is truly one of a kind, especailly considering the past twenty years. It is impressive and worth celebrating.

WE need to win now.

Is this due to the reseating? A number of friends with season tickets gave them up this year. All of them said they felt the process was unfair to long time, loyal fans who year in and year out gave their support. Yes, I know, it is all about money. I also know NU does a very poor job of reaching out to fans for donations. Is the Beef club still going? Or did that go by the wayside also?

I don't think it's any specific reason, just a convergence of lots of issues, mediocre team, overpriced tickets, bad non con schedule, bad PR recently for the athletic department in terms of fan treatment. Uncomfortable seating and unenjoyable in stadium experience.

Fans are at fault the losing. Fans have accepted that winning is not a top priority, which is really backwards and messed up and ADs and coaches are universally highly competitive ultra greedy people who recognize they don't need competence to get paid.

I hope the whirlwind is very strong and devastating and the whole place is laid bare as quickly as possible. So we can get someone smart, energetic, principled who cares about winning more than their paycheck.

Some of it is that the weaker teams that used to never be on TV are ALL on TV.

You do realize that most if not all the tickets not counting as sold are those that are given to the opposing team to sell to their sason holders etc and they have an option to turn them back in to Nebraska in which case will sell them out just like they did in the 70's -90's by getting big donors to buy them and give them to charities if nothing else late

Road teams are generally offered 3,000 tickets to sell, there's 7700-9250 remaining for all the home games and that includes some of the 3000 already being bought by opposing fans.

Yeah i got an email and phone called a few years ago about how they could improve the fan experience. My response was plain and simple. Put a better product on the field. I could care less about anything other than winning #1 and being able to grab some food whether it be hot dog or runza and a drink. I drive to the game, go to the game, and drive home. Turns out to be about an 8 to 9 hour day

I have 8 seats. 2 in the family since the 50s. Many times we were on the wait list with others. Finally after the north end zone expansion we were able to get more tickets. I found out my dad rejected additional tix after the 93 year. I wasn't happy about that. So when offered again we took 4 and after 600 expansion 2 more for 8 total. After many years of not being able to hardly give them away we thought about canceling. I decided to stick it out after the threats of being relocated or flat out displaced. In today's environment probably not going to happen but the fb ticketing is a mess

What did you expect when they started putting every game on TV and Tom expanded stadium capacity by almost 20,000? We added over 15,000 crappy seats.

It sounds like some games still have tickets so I’m guessing they will be sold just to keep the streak alive some bank or corporation will buy them and give them away probably a tax right off for them

The TRUE sellout ended years ago they were close enough that big boosters or Companies bought them up for a tax write off .

Except it isn’t a tax write off. CPAs get really nerdish when you try to expense entertainment. In the 80s a buddy of mine could get as many tickets as he wanted through his family’s bank via one of the Lincoln banks. We were actually winning, the stadium only held ~76K, and you could still always get tickets.

ONE thing that I think is dampening ticket sales is the electronic tickets. Twice we had problems with our season tickets last fall. One time after 2 trips to the ticket office the old guy at the gate finally just waved us through. He was muttering something about mfering technology shiz under his breath. Some of us just don’t want to deal with that crap.

Yep
I don’t like screwing with those either. We paid $100 extra for paper tickets
Not the cool ones we used to get
Ugly black and white middle school looking tickets
Yet another way the administration bilks their loyal fans

Everybody has electronic tickets now . It would be the same everywhere.
