To be honest, does anyone really know what his impact was on the staff? Product of the Sha secrecy bubble. Outside of seeing the coach yell at him on the bench…..who knows?
I have no clue, and I had less clue when he was hired. Some people whose *** is on the line are betting on him. Which is certainly a large feather on his resume.

I wasn't a fan of Sha's initial staff but Corey was Sha's #1 basketball assistant and had decades of experience running teams, albeit at lower levels. He ran practice for Sha and did it with intensity and emphasis on defensive fundamentals the way he wanted.

Whelan does most of the scouting, Rasheen is a relationship builder/recruiter, and Francis is a skills builder & relationship type.

Don't know if Sha promotes someone like Elisha Boone who runs a lot of workouts or does he give someone like Copeland, who has similar personality and strategy as Sha, a chance to rebuild his reputation. I'd love to see him bring in someone with some real offensive creativity or just an offensive-minded coach but Sha is stubborn. And this is a bit of an odd time to fill a spot.

Would love to get Ashton Gibbs.
I remember riding the subway through Brooklyn with Ashton and Sterling late one night after a tournament SHU played in at Barclay's. It was before Sterling was eligible to play but I think he was already on the team. Both guys couldn't have been nicer.

Shout out to Scotch Plains - all 3 boys now in coaching. Ashton has several years as assistant in G-league, TJ just began as Grad Assistant at UConn and of course Sterling at the Prep.

Do ***. coaches even matter anymore? I feel like u can have 1 Head Coach and no ***. coaches and win if u have $$$
Staff still matters. Obviously not nearly as much as the HC, but the staff still helps with scouting, game prep, player evaluation, running practices and workouts, building relationships in the upcoming portal and recruiting base, and all the other details that go into running these things.

Do I think the "recruiting shark" is nearly as important as it was in the past? No, not with NIL and the portal. But I think all the other things that go into building and having a good staff still matters.

I saw Ashton's SH Prep beat cba in the states when hexwas an underclassman. Thought I was seeing the next great NJ Pg.

Both of those guys could play.

Staff definitely still matters; especially if they have a wide network of contacts domestically & internationally. It always baffles me why our entire staff are all tied to the NY metro area yet our rosters these days feature very few players from the area.

Yea I don’t understand how that’s an infraction. Isn’t part of the job of a Davis and Francis to tamper with players all year who are on other teams? I mean we all know this goes on now throughout a season, across the board at the high major level.

Anyone else get a feeling that someone in power at Texas Southern either didn’t want him to get the job, or had their own person in mind who they want to get it?
There is a strong contingent that want the interim coach to be made permanent.

They are using Lowrey's issues at Union HS as a reason to not vote for him. And they say he has contacted current players, telling them he was the new HC, pending approval. They are saying this was a NCAA violation. The vote for his confirmation was split and will go to a final vote of the entire Board of Regents on August 19th.

It’s a wonder that they are still trying to fill the coaching vacancy with the season basically already started. What a mess created by their leadership.

A little late, but for those questioning Corey’s value to the staff - he brought Najai Hines here. He’s arguably our biggest recruit in 10+ years.
Not demeaning his role in bringing Hines, but more a commentary on the state of CBB. If our biggest recruit essentially played one season as a reserve….

No that was just poor coaching. He should have started by mid season. He is dominating UCONN practices right now. He always had it in him just needed more opportunities. Why Sha took him out of the Creighton game when he as dominating I’ll never know.

Not an expert but seems he was under utilized here.

The only thing I can think to explain it was Sha was trying to keep his value down in hopes to retain him for another year.

But Payne literally not catching a rebound or pass without tipping it or bobbling it somehow was fine.
I'm not defending it, just stating what was posted here repeatedly. Have to think Sha thought him playing less minutes was better for the team whether because of conditioning and/or stuff that we don't ever witness from practice. It was another reason though why he wasn't going to be back here.

One person here made a remark about Hines being out of shape and it spread like wildfire. Now it’s the only thing people say about him. He was fine. 6’10 270lb people are going to huff and puff.
