OT: Went to Octoberfest at Snowbird Ski Resort last weekend...

It was outstanding. Crowd was very large. Great polka music. So much to do, we stayed at The Cliff Lodge and Spa. The food at Octoberfest was excellent, brats, HUGE Bavarian soft pretzels, and the beer was very good. My wife not a huge beer drinker really enjoyed the beer. Had 4 different beers on tap. Excellent bonus if you bought the Octoberfest mugs you received a free tram ride to the top. We also did the alpine slide. Started the day at Alta Ski Resort next door and hiked up/down to Cecret Lake (just below Devils Castle) around 10,000 ft up. Then hit Octoberfest all afternoon, with the tram ride at Snowbird to Hidden Peak at 11,000 ft. Saw a mother and baby moose laying down sunday morning outside our window. Overall just a excellent time. Highly recommend for anyone that hasn't done it. I believe it goes every weekend through mid October.

It's not really Oktoberfest unless a German Oompah band is playing "Take Me Home Country Roads'.

They start now as its usually snowing by mid october. Plus they have to start getting the mountain ready for skiing in October. It was absolutely packed last weekend. And an absolute blast. No worries if you don't want to go then don't go. Felt like October last weekend in the mornings it was in the 40s temp wise.

Plus you get a second Oktoberfest when it normally takes place.

Interesting it was in the 40's. I live close to Snowbird at 5,000 ft and morning temps were low 70's around 5am / 6am when taking my dogs for their morning hike. Never been to Oktoberfest at Snowbird as I like to avoid crowds but heard it is a fun time.

Yep... was both mornings after that cold front pushed through Thursday/Friday. Remember cold air in the atmosphere sinks so as the sun rises the cold air crashes into the valley, but at this time of year warms fairly quick. Was perfect out, walked around with a nice hot cup of coffee and sweatshirt on with short. Hiking up to Cecret Lake on Saturday at Alta was perfect temps around noon right about 70. Forgot that is a pretty good hike even from the trail head parking lot. Cold beer tasted good at Octoberfest after that hike.
Should probably note it got down to about 48-49 degrees, it was not down in the low 40s or anything like that. Probably dipped into the 40s probably only an hour or two as the sun rose.
