Since Dan left we've had
• Square pegged Fitz
•Bad team discipline
• A leach offense that took qbs multiple years to learn to run.
• Terrible OC hire
•Square pegged Will
• Terrible DC hire.
This seems like the first year with good coordinators and the right players for the system we have had . Even if we don't win 8 or 9 like some fans expect, we are finally pointed in the right direction .

Glad you're excited. I'm taking a lower key approach as I always have. Show up and show me.

Leach offense is easy. That was the whole point of it. We just were limited with Rogers arm strength.

Costello also got hurt then Rogers did well enough to keep his job. Rogers was a good QB for Leach's system but his inability to push the ball down field limited what we could run.
I don't even know that it was his inability to push the ball down the field so much as his unwillingness too. He made some deep throws, especially in his last couple of years. He just seemed unwilling to pull the trigger unless it was just wide open. He seemed too comfortable in taking the easy throw and padding that completion percentage as opposed to taking a chance at a big play and maybe making a mistake.

Ironically, Shapen probably would have been a monster in that system, because he would have thrown the go route 40 times a game. He probably would have had those games you got accustomed to seeing from Leach QBs. 600+ yards, 8 TDs, and 4 INTs. Rogers was happy going for 250 with a 80% completion rate, 1 TD, and no INTs.

Don't we still have bad team discipline? Did we all decide to give the coaching staff a free pass on sleepwalking through a very winnable bowl game and looking hung over?
Yeah. The bowl game doesn’t get enough discussion here. I know it ultimately doesn’t matter, but it looked like we hadn’t prepared at all for that game.

That bowl game was one of the worst prepared for games I have seen Mississippi State play, and I have seen a lot of them. Someone had his mind set on getting dunked in mayonnaise and forgot he had a team to coach.

A couple of weeks ago, there was a thread asking what everyone's biggest concerns were for this team. Virtually everyone's top 2 were the Oline & Dline. You can't win in this league if you're weak at the line of scrimmage.

I know a bunch of people are excited about KT1 and rightfully so because he is super talented, BUT he is very inexperienced and failed to make it thru 1 of his 2 starts healthy. IF he stays healthy, there will still be a large learning curve for him.

All that, plus a HC that has a history of poor in games decisions leads me to be high skeptical this team will win more than 4 games.

Preparation or not it didn't matter. Let's not forget we had NO, ZERO, NADA, business even playing in that bowl game. It was a gift because others said "nah we're ok staying home". We only had 5 wins and two of those were against terrible AR (2-10) and N. IL (3-9) teams and Wake Forest was 9-4

but I feel like K1 is going to be really special. An elite QB can cover up a lot for a lot of deficiencies.
Don't get me wrong, I'm very excited about K1's potential. But a lot of people are putting a LOT of expectations on a true SO who has only thrown 77 passes (and much more successful when he came in for a play here and there than in the 2 games he started). There's gonna be some ups and downs with him this year. Even Dak as a redshirt SO wasn't anything near the QB he was as a JR and SR.

And yet we still should have beaten them, or at least not looked so incompetent in the loss.

Lebby's coaching blunders against Texas and Florida get a lot of attention, but he bungled the Wake Forest game pretty badly too.

Costello learned it year 1 during a COVID reduced practice season. Rogers also started as a freshman.

You all really need to quit looking at the Leach Era as some sort of negative. The only negative about it is that he died, which is the most Miss Stake part of it all.

Arnett's D does not really match Lebby's quick strike stuff. And Taylor doesn't have the passing required for Lebby's offense. So that's 2 black marks already.

Yes, we do.

I don't know how it happens or what they do, but the players absolutely look out of shape and sloppy under bad coaches. I don't know if it's discipline or just a S&C coach who doesn't have his head up his asss.

I still have nightmares about it. We got shown up by a team that we should've beat by 3 TDs. On top of that, every break in the game had some weird Urkel lookalike encouraging people to chug mayonnaise- and they did.

Unless we go 5-7 (3-6 SEC), most of y'all will be happy at the end of the year. We'll be in a bowl game or Lebby will be fired.

True, only 77 passes. But don't forget he threw for over 7,000 yards and 100 TDs in HS so it's not like he has never seen a football before his freshman year. Potential is great but the thing that concerns me is his 56% completions for those 7000 yards playing in 3-A ball. Lets hope he is more Dak than Fritz.

I think he'll be a better passer than Fitz and a better runner than Dak. Just needs some experience and needs to stay healthy (don't take unnecessary hits).

I always thought it was that Leach's OL could not hold up to a real SEC pass rush and the ball had to be gone within a few split seconds or he was toast.

And inability to maneuver the pocket, much less take off. Never learned the "clock" of when to get rid of it or when the blitz was obviously coming.

Actually, after the LSU win other SEC teams refused to let us throw the ball over the top. Mizzou showed them how to battle the air raid. The air raid was designed to take what the defense gave you. We ended up nibbling our way down the field which gave us tremendous time of possession.

That game may have been the worst game plan & lack of adjustments Ive ever seen by a defensive coordinator. I believe he got fired a couple of day later.
