I’ve seen Mozee and Nelson do some really good things and Rule impressed me in the spring scrimmage. People forget that Emmitt’s snaps early on were limited IMO because he danced too much behind the line. Sometimes it just isn’t there and you have to just lower your head and take what you can get.
Hopefully your right :)

I don't think it matters that much. Emmitt was AWESOME in our last three games and we got boat raced. Running back is such a marginal position unless the guy can carry 40 times, and nobody is going to do that with all of these wrs getting paid. And a running game needs a complimentary defense which we don't have. This certainly isn't a room to change to a power running game, decent if we can pass first, not likely though.
RB isn't marginal. But it can feel like that if you have a rush defense that' can't stop a paper towel. And a passing game so bad they can't take advantage of them crowding the line.

I just shake my head with Barthel. We could argue all day as some defend him, but geez. I don't even have the energy. The guy literally sucks at recruiting.

Lacey just named the #6 player in the COUNTRY. That flip away from Nebraska sealed Barthel's recruiting rep IMO. Hasn't recovered, not sure he will. Hoping the new frosh changes my mind.

Yeah. How dare a top RB recruit leave a team at the altar that hadn’t been to a bowl game in 6 years🙄.

I don't quite get the Barthel hate. The guy coached the only All American Nebraska has had in years. People squabble and ask why he wasn't playing earlier... maybe Emmett needed coached up!

Jamal Rule sounds like a dude and the guy coming next year is legit too.

They took an insurance flyer on Tikey who would have been 5th or 6th string anyway. No loss and freed up a spot.

IWCC has not been good for Nebraska. Before this dude it was that 5-star receiver. Omar something-or-another?

He lasted about as long as any of our July ads. Does anyone remember that juco WR from Arizona? I think Frost brought him in and he lasted maybe a week. Callahan brought in some late WRs too-- I heard none of them were D-1 caliber people or players.
Also that RB during Mike Riley era. Morrison is think. Had originally committed to Wisconsin, then got dropped / left, came to us and returned 1 kickoff for like 6 yards....

I was on record after watching his clips that I didn't see much to get excited about. I think he showed some short area quickness, and some pretty good balance. He also looked to be physical. But to me I didn't see anything that I'd put him ahead of our top 3 guys.

To me he would've been competing with Ives and Booth for 4,5, and 6th. I don't lose sleep over those type guys. It's funny how this guy was just "ok" but as soon as he leaves his potential is "through the roof" lol. You gotta laugh.

I won't lose a wink of sleep. From what I seen it was a shot in the dark. Like I said then I could be wrong but I simply didn't see it.

Holla
He committed about a month ago but didn’t show up until fall camp, right? No summer workouts
Hard to make an impact if you’re not here. To me dismissed is not a depth chart thing it’s an internal discipline issue that leads to dismissal. Have a hard time believing that we brought him in to cut him two weeks into fall camp without him being around this summer

C'mon man, this is a loser mindset. Great recruiters haul in excellent players to mediocre programs all the time - including ours. You seem to excuse Barthel quite a bit - I don't get it. And no, I don't blame LACEY for leaving us one bit (so your comment doesn't really land).

No, I blame Barthel that he got stood up at the altar, had no back-up plan, and hasn't recruited a kid in year 4 that has proven to be anything close to high end talent (maybe I'm wrong?) I agree the PSU kid was a total flyer. I'm not upset the kid didn't work out - I'm upset that we're relegated to taking flyers because Barthel can't land a boss at RB.

Like I said, I hope this year proves this take wrong with our new frosh Jamal Rule. Anyone not concerned about Barthel and his recruiting is a little drunk on optimism IMO. I hope Rule goes OFF (or any RB for that matter) and I get to sing his praises. So far - no dice.

Barthel sucks, and our running game has sucked since the arrival of this head coach. Emmet was decent, and an outlier, but we still don't break off 70 yard runs like we used to.. it like NEVER happens anymore.

I still don't understand the head coach bringing in an OC from the Leach tree of passing.. it just blows me away that any coach at Nebraska would do that.

The whole running thing is not valued by this coach or staff.

That said, I hope the freshman has all the success in spite of this clueless staff.

EJ was “decent” … All-American, Big10 first team and Big10 running back of the year … decent?

I could get on board with that if we knew Nelson could produce. But since I don’t know that, I like the idea of having a few bodies to choose from as the season goes on.

But what can we really expect from our RB coach? It’s too much trouble to go out and recruit a competitive room. And then you have to coach more guys and manage more expectations and egos. It’s just simpler to decide who you are going to play, and then you have more time for soduku puzzles.
Soduku puzzles? This staff? Maybe on Easy mode.. That's funny.

Add pat Stewart he doesn’t prioritize running backs , he’s a terrible GM

No. Just realistic. Would you have wanted to try to run behind the O line we had when he changed his commitment? The kid was smart considering the circumstances at the time. Somebody pointed that out to him.

We were not a running team last year.. how many 70 yard runs did EJ have? they leaned on him heavily, yes, and yes he was 'decent'.. he's not really comparable to the standard of RB's that we have had here.. it wasn't a slight, that's just where he measures up.. he's not even secure in his spot at the next level due to his poor blocking skills.

I can get behind your Nebraska is going to shock the world takes … but I think this is a more bold take than Huskers in the Playoffs! 🤣😂🤣

Nikki is a racist wife-beater, and proud enough of it to tell us all about it and suggest where we can find the compliant, submissive, women that allow his authority.

I choose to not ignore him for the levity he adds.

You haven’t seen squat from Mozee and Nelson wouldn’t even sniff the field for any other Big Ten/SEC team lol

honestly, I wasn't trying to slight the kid, and hope he is successful, but people are acting like he's Ameer Abdullah level (who is near the bottom of what i consider our good running back lineage) and he's maybe 70-80% of what Ameer was.

I believe Stephenson was his name. There's a common theme there with guys who were committed to decent programs and picked up by us after they got dropped (for a reason). Stephenson from Wisconsin, shows up in Lincoln fat and out of shape. This Hayes guy who was committed to Penn State. We had a WR from Oklahoma a few years ago who was a Texas commit and got dropped. Of course, we celebrated getting all of these guys because they were all given four stars by some random dude with a website so therefore they had to be awesome.

At this point, are we really sure what any of these "front office guys" actually do?

It would be interesting to compare how many high paid chair warmers exist in the football administration now compared to 30 years ago. Pat Stewart might be a terrible GM, but I bet his main job is just figuring out ways to keep the 50 people under him busy. What the **** do those guys do all day?

I usually agree with your takes, but not this time. Ameer is a competitive son of a ***** and he's still in the league because of that. And a damn good football player. But Emmitt Johnson is pretty damn good as well. I would say the Emmitt is almost as good. I think Abdullah benefited by playing behind a better line and a QB who has a great running threat.

Yup, that's it! Stephenson.

You're right, these dudes never seem to work out. Not even as a body for practices.
