“We found a pattern of events that showed cutting and bagging cocaine was, for some pledges, an indoctrination into the Delta Upsilon and Sigma Chi fraternities,” Sunday said.
I was never into the frat scene but would sometimes hear Delta Upsilon be referred to as Drugs Unlimited. It may or may not have been true when I was an undergrad, but it (allegedly) seems to be true now.

And on the bright side for Alpha Zeta, if they can't repair their fire damage, there may soon be a couple vacant off campus houses they could acquire. I can't imagine those chapters could survive if they were involved in the distribution of drugs. But before moving in, I'd invite the police to do a sweep with a narcotics dog. You don't want to be blamed for a stash which was planted by the prior tenant.

Yeah when I was at state high in the early 2010s even teachers would refer to it as Drugs Unlimited lol. I forget exactly what the story is but they have like a 30-40+ year history of drug stuff.

seems cocaine having a come back moment currently.
All studies done by intl law enforcement say the same - very worrying for kids IMO. Likely in part due to legal cannabis lowering the profitability of black market cannabis for cartels/etc, so they pivot heavier into cocaine and heavier drugs.

Sigma Chi sold coke in the late 80's. Nice to see some things stay the same in Happy Valley.

I also remember playing "Burning Down the House" out the windows as the fire trucks put their house fire out one day.

Come to think of it...we had a pledge class of 16. Having us bundle up cocaine for the brothers would have sped Hell Week up quite a bit.

"Sh|t, you want the kitchen clean? Pots and pans? You got it Bro! Right after I pressure wash the slate roof tiles. We're still on tap, right?"

I barely had enough $$ to buy Milwaukee's Best 12 pack as an undergrad...
We would get $1.99 six packs of Rolling Rock. And I remember this: we’re seemingly out of weed and my roommate finds a baggie full of seeds, carefully cleans them and we end up with a decent stash, enough for a bowl full for each of us. “Time to party!” Good times.

Always check the Frisbee Jim. As Fat Freddy said: "Weed will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no weed."

Wasn't Delta Upsilon one of the fraternities that went substance free at the national level a few years ago?

I would think if this thing goes to trial that those 2 frats are long gone for awhile at least from PSU. Hazing initiations of cutting and bagging cocaine.... Don't see anyway they stay on campus

For sure. The article said Delta Upsilon was placed under suspension, but Sigma Chi was operating outside the purview of the university. I don't think it matters either way since the AG, IMHO, will seize both houses under the asset forfeiture law. It was more than just a couple dudes being stupid. It was stupidity at the house leadership level.

Good point I didn't even think of that... yes the AG I would think if it's legal will seize both those houses. Can't even imagine these kids parents getting these calls or the knock on the door from law enforcement.

I’m sure it was all just a misunderstanding.

There was a brother at Sigma Chi back in those days that may have known about that generation's coke dealings. He became a US congress critter, so I'm sure it was nothing.

DU was aka Drugs Unlimited as far back as the early to mid ‘80’s.

SAE and KDR had the same reputation. DU was more the poor student's outlet. They had a brother that - NO LIE - put a coupon in the Collegian for a $1 discount off a gram of weed. Also had a Monday Night Football special where he'd deliver. I think he called himself Dr. Z.

Somone needs to get the Deltas back on campus. Those guys may have been hell raisers, but at least they were fun hell raisers

Phi Delt is now University Property. No Bowery Ball. No salamander eating contests. All gone. Other than the architecture, I guess it's a nice building though.

D.U. was a huge football/lacrosse house all the way into the early ‘70s, only to fall victim to the post-Vietnam Greek-life lull / decline that lasted into the early 80s ….

I was dismayed to learn of the “Drugs Unlimited“ moniker after I started pledging D.U. as a transfer student in ‘86 … though indeed I heard all the stories about the craziness of the prior 10yrs which secured that reputation .

Witnessed only an occasional isolated in-room weed-event amongst a few brothers during my stint in the House, never anything in the common areas either. Knew of nothing more than that as far as substances go … we were pretty hell bent on turning that reputation around back in the late 80s . Having been at nearly every other house on / off campus back then ~ I knew there was more illicit nonsense going on at probably 45 other houses. Alas , would not have tolerated any of that under our roof. Same with the hazing aspect.
